Job description

General Responsibility

The Employment Placement Specialist facilitates the Employment Placement of SkillUp! program participants into the Calgary labour market by utilizing knowledge about the local, regional, and provincial labour market. Participants of the SkillUp program are immigrants and job seekers interested in pursuing a career in the Construction/Trades sector in Alberta.

The Employment Placement Specialist will adhere to all Centre for Newcomers Policies and Procedures, Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC regulations, Career Development Association of Alberta’s (CDAA) professional ethics and ensure the confidentiality of client information and client records as provided for under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIP).

Specific Responsibilities Include:

· Identify labour market opportunities that suit the occupational skills and employment goals of SkillUp job seekers.

· Serve as the main point of contact for employers interested in hiring SkillUp graduates, establishing relationships to understand their business needs and effectively market the program

· Advocate for diverse hiring practices' inclusion and business value and enhance intercultural competencies within employer businesses.

· Engage in business community events to enhance and sustain visibility for both SkillUp and CFN

· Acquire and continuously update knowledge of local employers, their businesses and their hiring criteria.

· Facilitate the placement, matching, and job coaching of SkillUp learners with suitable employers.

· Assess workplace environment and employers to determine suitability for job placement and related opportunities.

· Support employers in developing training plans and detailed retention plans for newcomer and immigrant employees.

· Develop and facilitate workshops and information sessions for the employer community when needed.

· Collaborate with the SkillUp team to attain, maintain, and exceed performance standards and outcomes.

· Liaise with other employment service agencies in Calgary to foster cooperative relationships and discuss best practices.

Qualifications:

Service-oriented: Demonstrated experience in employer connections and job placements; commitment to exceeding client and partner service expectations. Culturally competent: familiar with serving job seekers including people with disabilities from other cultures than your own; strong attention to detail and follow-up skills.

Education: University degree in a relevant field: Human Resources, Business Administration, Marketing, among others.

Technical: Excellent computer and internet skills, Proficient use of Zoom, Google Drive, MS Teams or other digital platforms

Research: Solid research abilities to identify job opportunities and understand industry trends.

Experience:

· Experience in any of the following fields are desirable: Human Resources & Recruitment, Sales and Marketing.

· Experience working with high-need immigrants; proven experience in employer connections, networking, and labor market information and research.

· Experience supporting individuals with return-to-work plans and solid knowledge of workplace accommodations.

Results-oriented: Achieve monthly job placement targets by building and maintaining personal contacts with employers and industry representatives.

Relationship Builder: Proven ability to establish and build positive relations with job seekers and employer partners.

Other: Valid Class 5 Driver’s License

Communication: Adapts communication to respond to the audience or situational requirements. In addition to English, speaking one of the major immigrant languages is and asset.
