Employment Placement Specialist

We are looking for an Employment Placement Specialist to join our team. We are a Work BC subcontractor in partnership with The Open Door Group. We work exclusively with survivors of violence and abuse, assisting unemployed, or underemployed, individuals to obtain employment by supporting clients to identify realistic employment options, become job ready, source prospective employers and provide coaching.

Summary of the Position: To support survivors of violence and abuse to gain and maintain competitive and meaningful employment. Our Work BC Employment Services Employment Placement Specialist helps job seekers find employment opportunities that match their skills, experience, and career goals. They work closely with employers to understand their hiring needs and provide staffing solutions that meet their requirements. Employment Placement Specialists also provides career advice and support to job seekers, including resume and interview preparation, and help them navigate the job market.

Responsibilities:

• Conducts intakes and completes individualized needs assessments for clients to establish their eligibility for services and pre-employment needs.
• Assesses and facilitates wraparound and intervention resources required to help clients address and overcome barriers that may prevent them from achieving a successful employment outcome, including facilitating community-based referrals when needed.
• Collects, organizes, and analyzes client information through completed needs assessments to appraise clients’ interests, aptitudes, and abilities to create individualized action plans that lead to successful outcomes.
• Coaches, motivates, and conducts timely follow-ups with clients throughout their job search efforts, providing repeat one-on-one employment counselling sessions as needed to review goals, address barriers, and ensure progress is being made.
• Assess the skills and qualifications of job seekers to match them with appropriate job openings.
• Provide guidance and support to job seekers throughout the job search process, including resume writing, and interview preparation.
• Stay current with industry trends and best practices in resume writing & interviewing.
• Assesses and documents clients’ job retention status at regular check-in intervals post-employment for a one-year period with the goal of positive retention.
• Develop and maintain relationships with employers to understand their hiring needs and preferences.

SKILLS AND REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Degree, Diploma, or Certificate in Social Work or Human Resources, or related field is preferred.
• Proven experience as a Job Placement Specialist or similar role preferred.
• Ability to record data quickly and accurately.
• Compile, copy, sort, scan, file and distribute documents.
• Exceptional attention to detail, excellent problem-solving skills, and adapts well to change.
• Typing speed 45+ WPM.
• Confident previous use of all aspects of Microsoft 365, Teams, Zoom, and an aptitude for quick learning of additional new software programs.
• Enjoys a fast-paced, ever-changing work environment where compassion and assertiveness are required.

The successful applicant will work 21 hours per week at $26.00 per hour.
