We’re a Canadian-owned and BC-based energy company taking steps toward a lower-carbon energy future by providing renewable energy, natural gas and electricity to more than 1.2 million customers.
We’re looking for new talent to join us as we transform BC’s energy future. Our diverse team of more than 2,600 employees is committed to a safe and inclusive culture where each of us can connect, belong and grow. Join us and let’s work together for a better BC.
Position Overview
Are you a self-starter who can envision a low-carbon energy future and work towards getting us there?
Are you constantly searching for opportunities to operationalize energy management?
Are you a strong communicator and collaborator who can effectively explain complex or technical information in an engaging and relatable way?
Are you someone who appreciates collaboration, teamwork, and strategic thinking?
If so, stop searching! We want to hear from you! We are looking for a new Sustainability & Decarbonization team member to fill the role of Energy and GHG Emissions Manager to help us be even more energy efficient and lead the development and implementation of greenhouse gas reduction (GHG) opportunities within our company.
In year 1, you will:
-Develop relationships with key business units to gain a better understanding of how departments operate and explore GHG reduction and energy savings opportunities.
-Coordinate with the Facilities, Fleet and Operations departments to develop and prioritize GHG reduction and energy saving projects for Buildings, Operations, or Fleet.
-Utilize dashboards, reports, and data to track, review, and analyze our energy performance and use results to inform projects and report on progress toward corporate targets.
-Partner with Facilities and Operations teams to advance the established Energy Management Programs.
-Contribute to developing carbon reduction strategies and lead working groups, and roadmaps for identified areas in collaboration with the Sustainability & Decarbonization team.
In year 2, you will:
-Evaluate and present results and recommendations to senior leaders with the goal of continuous improvement.
-Support departments with implementing energy-saving and GHG reduction project opportunities.
-Continue to contribute to developing carbon reduction strategies and lead working groups, and roadmaps for identified areas in collaboration with the Sustainability & Decarbonization team. Identify and submit external funding applications on behalf of business units and manage program-funding submissions where relevant.
What it takes:
-Degree in Engineering or Applied sciences, an equivalent Science Degree or post-secondary degree from an accredited post-secondary institution and a minimum of three years relevant and demonstrated experience in Energy and carbon management.
-A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a BCIT Sustainable Energy Management Associate Certificate (SEMAC) or completion of the UBC Masters in Clean Energy.
-A Certified Energy Manager (CEM) and/or Certified Measurement and Verification Professional (CMVP) designation are not required but would be considered an asset.
-Experience in managing energy saving and/or greenhouse gas reduction projects related to gas and electric operations or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience preferably in the context of the energy industry.
In this role, you will have the option to participate in a flexible work program, enabling you to work from an approved flex location in British Columbia up to 85 days a year (equivalent to approximately two days a week), subject to business or operational needs.
Our engaging workplace offers a wide range of challenging opportunities, while being safe, inclusive and diverse. We offer a competitive salary and benefits package, while supporting life-long career development. We also encourage volunteerism and nourish the need to give back to your community.
