Primary Accountabilities


The Conservation Officer 3 is the primary source of supervisory direction and advice for Conservation Officers. Reporting to the Regional Enforcement Manager and working closely with, regional staff, provincial partner departments, the Conservation Officer 3 is instrumental in ensuring that provincial standards are understood and adhered to supporting consistent and effective application of legislation, policy, and procedures. The Conservation Officer 3 is the primary source of compliance and enforcement expertise, training, coaching and procedural support for Conservation Officers. The incumbent provides coordination and support for intelligence gathering and analysis, complex investigations, and prosecutions. They contribute to departmental risk-based planning processes and provide an operational perspective on issues with enforcing legislation and regulation under the Department’s core mandate.


Qualifications and Experience


Completion of related post secondary education, completion of law enforcement program, police training or equivalent, plus 8 years enforcement experience or an equivalent combination.


The successful candidate must have demonstrated leadership experience in the enforcement field, excellent organizational and time management skills. The candidate will have a thorough knowledge of, and demonstrated experience in, investigative techniques and legal processes including a strong background in the preparation and presentation of court documents. Demonstrated experience in interpreting and applying legislation, regulations, standards, and policies is required.


The successful candidate will have experience mentoring, coaching, and training staff as it relates to enforcement activities would be considered an asset. They will possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written). The incumbent must have proficient computer skills and report writing as well as experience working with electronic tracking systems and databases. They will have demonstrated their ability to solve complex issues, make decisions, be motivated, versatile, work independently and manage difficult or confrontational situations.

Special Statement


The candidate must be eligible for appointment as a Special Constable under the Police Act. A valid Nova Scotia driver’s license is required.


  • Please note, this position requires wearing a uniform and carrying/certifying on required duty equipment, including sidearm, OC spray, baton, handcuffs, and portable radio.
    Applicant must show that they have previous training and/or certification with this equipment.

Pay Grade: TE 29

Salary Range: $2,885.19 - $3,352.47 Bi-Weekly
