The Strategic Engagement Branch enhances the strategic engagement capacity of the Ministry of Education and across the Government of Alberta. Core to this function, the branch serves as an engagement center of excellence, both internal and external, for the department by supporting new and innovative ways of thinking, being and working in a complex education sector landscape.

The branch is comprised of diverse and results-driven members that: provide leadership, advice, facilitate collaborative partnerships and action, and have expertise in the design and delivery of engagement strategy, planning and tools to support technical analysis and strategic synthesis across the department, Government of Alberta and with stakeholders.

Role

Reporting to the Director, the Engagement Consultant is responsible for developing and implementing an innovative student engagement initiative, the Minister's Youth Council and internal employee engagements. This position leverages knowledge of technology, learning and working with students and employees to build strong consultation, facilitation, analytical, research, and project management skills.

In addition, the Engagement Consultant develops leadership, planning and program development skills across divisions, with the Deputy Minister, Minister, stakeholder associations, parents, and most importantly, students. As a member of the Alberta Public Service, this position models the APS competencies, leadership skills and values with the goal of making a positive difference in the APS.

Other key responsibilities will include:
Develop and deliver innovative engagement programming to provide students and stakeholders with opportunities for meaningful input to strategic decisions at the Ministry and education system levels.
Provide project management and coordination services for student engagement events, initiatives, and activities to ensure consistency with applicable visions, principles, policies and guidelines.
Provide expertise, research and analytical services to Ministry program areas to support the planning and delivery of employee engagement activities
Support the management team in achieving the Strategic Engagement Branch mandate and goals
Qualifications

This position requires a university graduation in a related field supplemented by 2 years of progressively and related experience.

Related experience or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one-for-one basis.

Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
1 year of experience for 1 year of education

The position requires the following knowledge and experiences:

Stakeholder engagement theories, methodologies and practices
Universal Methods of Design
Adult and youth learning principles and practices
Program research, design and evaluation
Business plans, core business areas, and organization and decision-making structures of the Ministry.

Experiences and knowledge in the following areas are considered a key asset for this position:

Working on Government and Ministry strategic directions and goals
Experience working in the provincial education system, including current and emerging issues and the administrative structures of school jurisdictions and schools
Knowledge of applicable legislation, regulations, policies and guidelines (e.g., Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act).

Creative Problem Solving – The Engagement Consultant works with all levels of government, including members of the Minister's Office, in order to develop and deliver high quality student engagement programming and meaningful employee engagement activities. This position must think creatively and identify issues/ problems/ opportunities and find effective solutions. There are frequent emergent issues and questions that come out of the MO and this position must be able to respond in a timely fashion with accurate and relevant information.

Drive for Results – Stakeholder engagement is often unpredictable with high expectations. The Engagement Consultant works collaboratively and creatively with program areas to find solutions. This position gathers feedback and data on engagements and uses that information to continually improve. The Engagement Consultant also models engagement and the APS values in all behaviors and practices.

Salary

$2,588.06 to $3,397.76 bi-weekly. ($67,548.36- $88,681.53/ year)

Notes

This is a full-time temporary position till August 2024. The position is in Edmonton.

This position is 36.25 hours per week, 8:15 am – 4:30 pm Monday- Friday.
