JOB PURPOSE:
The York School is looking for an experienced and inspirational Teacher to be part of the Middle & Senior School faculty as an English & Humanities Teacher. The successful candidate will have had training or successful experience at the Intermediate Level with the Middle Years Programme (MYP) and will be well-versed in project-based and experiential learning.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teach and assess the curriculum within the International Baccalaureate (IB) framework and philosophy of the Middle Years Programme (MYP)
Integrate The York School’s mission and values throughout all curricular and co-curricular activities
Complete ongoing assessment of students, including report cards, progress reports and communication with parents and grade team members
Establish and enforce student expectations with disciplinary strategies for an effective teaching and learning environment
Utilizes a variety of strategies to build strong developmental relationships with students
Employ innovation and technology to optimize student learning throughout the curriculum
Establish positive and engaging teaching and learning environment through classroom management practices and techniques
Maintain current knowledge of best practices by engaging in professional learning opportunities and participating in professional development meetings
Contribute to the student co-curricular and athletic programmes as a Teacher lead/supervisor or Coach
Contribute to student experiential learning by chaperoning on overnight excursions
Participate in supervision as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
B.Ed. with Intermediate and Senior qualifications and membership in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers
Bachelor’s degree with specialization in English or Humanities
Minimum 2 years experience teaching in the Middle School grades
Training and experience teaching the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP) and/or Diploma Programme (DP) considered an asset
Strong ability to work as part of a collaborative team
Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
Ability to interact with students, parents and teachers cheerfully, enthusiastically, courteously, patiently and with discretion
Strong organizational and time management skills
A proactive team player who is flexible and self-motivated with a “How can I help?” attitude
Proficiency in a technologically rich school environment, and skilled in Google Workspace is considered an asset

The York School Campus, Toronto
Occasional evening, overnight and weekend travel for school trips required
