Teck is looking for an experienced Environmental Projects Engineer or Specialist to join our team at our Trail Operations, one of the world's largest fully integrated zinc and lead smelting and refining complexes. Reporting to Superintendent, Environmental Improvement, the Senior Environmental Projects Engineer or Specialist is responsible for advancing the development of pre-defined environmental improvement projects, participating in the development and implementation of environmental improvement strategies and supporting the Environmental Monitoring team to identify and resolve environmental problems.

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Works in collaboration with the Projects department and engineering contractors, through all stages of project management to advance environmental improvement projects
    • Key focus areas include effluent, noise and fugitive dust.
  • Environmental lead to develop and advance engineered environmental improvement projects to include studies and engineering from design to construction and commissioning.  
  • Works in collaboration with other Trail Operations departments and disciplines to provide environmental technical support for the development and implementation of engineering projects to improve environmental performance
  • Accountable for supporting Environmental Monitoring department programs to ensure compliance with provincial and federal environmental legislation including supporting environmental incident investigations and assessments, identifying and resolving environmental problems and reporting on performance to internal and external stakeholders and regulators. Some audit support may be required
  • The role includes helping in the continuous revision and improvement of environmental targets, the development of innovative environmental solutions, providing advice on future planning, and supporting a creative work environment
  • Participates in rotating on-call schedule to respond to after-hour emergencies or environmental support.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in a relevant technical field such as Engineering, Environmental Science or Chemistry
  • Minimum three years (3) of proven work experience in environmental engineering preferably in heavy industry 
  • Experience in the design and implementation of Environmental Projects a plus
  • Knowledge of refining, smelting or mine operations would be an asset
  • Knowledge of Environmental monitoring equipment for effluent or water would be an asset
  • Applicants may need to be eligible for registration or registered with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of B.C. (“EGBC”) as a condition of employment. Teck will support eligible employees with their EGBC registration.

Salary Range: $101,000 - $125,000


The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.


This role is eligible to hire up to a Senior level candidate.

 

Please note this role does require the successful candidate to live within 100KM of Trail. British, Columbia. Relocation assistance will be offered however there is no camp or company housing.
