Job description

The Equipment Superintendent is responsible for the coordination of the construction process from the conceptual development stage through final construction. The Equipment Superintendent will support the Field Operations within the division and contribute to a revenue increase and cost reduction by effectively coordinating with field staff, subcontractors, and clients to manage deliverables and day-to-day construction operations.

Position Accountabilities:

Project Manager:

  • Ensure sufficient deployment and productivity of work crews.
  • Engage in open communication with Project Managers, Supervisors, Operations Managers and Division Managers to communicate potential issues that could affect project plans.
  • Allocate resources where appropriate to achieve project safety, schedule, cost, scope and quality objectives.
  • Organize and coordinate the daily activities of all crews in your assigned areas, subcontractors, and equipment, and utilize corrective action to keep the projects on time and within budget.
  • Aid with any claims or dispute negotiations with the owner and sub-trades.
  • Identify and execute best practices concerning the efficient use of construction materials.
  • Plan work in an efficient and effective order to maximize progress within the Safety and Environmental Standards.
  • Review to ensure adherence to company, client, and project policies, construction schedules, and that milestones and completion dates are met.
  • Ensure all related operations, including subcontractors, are conducted in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, the HSE Manual, and any additional project requirements.
  • Monitor the project performance, schedule, equipment, materials, quality control, safety, and environment to comply with the approved plans and specifications.
  • Utilization of diverse construction methods and procedures, planning, scheduling, and sequencing to anticipate any foreseeable problems to maintain overall project timelines, including seasonal project timelines.
  • Evaluate quality control for efficiencies to reduce downtime and cost overruns to increase revenue.
  • Implementation of relevant Construction Law, building codes, and industry specifications.
  • As a member of the core team, attend pre-tender meetings and aid in the securement of new contracts and projects through participation in the estimation process and Request for Proposal.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. is preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a supervisory role within deep and/or shallow underground utilities is preferred.
  • 10–15 years’ progressive construction experience.
  • Proficient in reading drafts, drawings, and prints.
  • In-depth knowledge of Deep Utility materials, systems, and construction methodologies.
  • Valid Class 5 Operators License, clean Driver’s Abstract (as defined by company policy).
  • Valid Standard First Aid Certificate.
  • Valid Ground Disturbance Level 2 Certificate.
  • Microsoft Office proficiency (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Experience with app-based programs for safety and production paperwork.
