Job description

Job Overview:
Under the Direction of the Director of Housekeeping/Facilities, the Executive Housekeeper will be responsible for the highest quality of cleanliness and condition within the hotel and Event Centre through directing and coordinating the housekeeping operation in accordance with hotel and event centre standards, as well as managing the Housekeeping department, supervising staff and overseeing daily operations with the view to achieve the department's goal of "picture perfect everywhere".

Responsibilities :

  • Develop, recommend and implement a department budget, monitoring progress throughout the year and taking corrective actions
  • Develop, recommend and implement standards and objectives for the Housekeeping department
  • Develop, recommend and implement housekeeping policies and procedures
  • Attend management meetings to exchange information and resolve problems
  • Ensure the safety of employees by controlling the use of cleaning solutions
  • Supervise the staff of the Housekeeping department, interviewing and hiring new employees, carrying out performance appraisals, motivating staff, directing the training and development of staff and carrying out disciplinary action
  • Inspect public areas, identify problems and assign work
  • Spot checks cleaned rooms to ensure that standards are maintained
  • Lead department meetings to communicate information and resolve problems
  • Prepare and update Housekeeping schedules and control daily work assignments and staffing
  • Complete an inspection of the hotel's main areas daily to ensure cleanliness standards are met
  • Check hotel occupancy to ensure that staff are scheduled to meet demand
  • Evaluate staffing needs daily
  • liaise with Front Office staff to identify special needs and guest requests
  • Review payroll information to ensure accuracy
  • Complete a monthly linen room inventory and order supplies from the Storeroom
  • Follow up with the Maintenance department to ensure work orders are completed
  • Obtain quotations and purchase various Housekeeping supplies
  • Oversee the work of outside contractors such as dry cleaners, outsourced cleaners
  • Address and supervise cleanliness issues relating to guest room capital projects
  • Work in compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and
  • regulations.
  • Ensure work areas arekept clean and organized to prevent any possible hazards to his/herself' and/or fellow employees
  • Ensure that the equipment, materials, and protective devices are prescribed, maintained in good condition and used as prescribed
  • Ensure the measures and procedures prescribed are carried out in the
  • workplace
  • Other duties as assigned

Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma or work related equivalent
  • Hospitality Management diploma and Asset
  • Minimum three (3) years experience in hotel housekeeping industry
  • Minimum three (3) years supervisory experience
  • WHMIS and Biohazard clean up experience is an asset
  • First Aid Training

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required in order to, promote, maintain and deliver impeccable service standards at all times.
  • Customer service experience and well-developed leadership skills.
  • Proven ability to coach, mentor and train associates.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Must be accurate and detail oriented.
  • Must be able to work in a variety of shifts.
  • Must be able to lift weight of up to approximately 50 lbs
  • Working knowledge of floor machines (and any other relevant equipment) and asset.
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding area, able to lift and handle repetitive movement is required.
  • Experience with performance management through education and action
