Registered Nurse - Surgical Services
Permanent Full Time
Location: Happy Valley- Goose Bay, NL
The Labrador-Grenfell Mentorship Program is designed to prepare the novice Registered Nurse or new nurse graduate to work in a specialty area. The mentorship program is a 12 month/1 year mentorship inclusive of: education, orientation, preceptorship, and transition to practice program, education and skills. Upon successful completion of the mentorship program, the Registered Nurse (RN) will qualify to work as a Registered Nurse in the Surgical Services Department. This position offers an excellent opportunity to learn advanced nursing knowledge, skills and decision-making. The primary purpose of this position is to work as an active member of the nursing team to provide a high standard of care to patients of the Labrador Health Centre. The RN is responsible for maintaining professional and organizational standards and practice in accordance with the LG Model of Nursing Clinical Practice and reports to the Clinical Nurse Manager. A return in service agreement may be required.
Qualifications:
" Graduation from an approved from an approved/recognized school of nursing program is required;
" Current and continuing practicing licensure with the College of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador (CRNNL) is required;
" Surgical Services Education Program or willingness to complete (within timeframe designated by employer);
" Successful completion of NRP, ACLS, and TNCC or willingness to complete (within timeframe designated by employer);
" Breastfeeding education/course;
" Current certification in Basic Life Support (CPR);
" The successful applicant will be required to submit a satisfactory certificate of conduct and vulnerable sector check;
Duties: (Included but not limited to)
" Provide safe nursing care to clients in the Endoscopy and Surgical Suites, and Day Surgery;
" Complete an accurate record of care throughout the client's stay in Surgical Services;
" Complete inventory of unit narcotics and controlled drugs;
" Be familiar with the operation of the equipment in the endoscopy and operating suites, and day surgery;
" Assess equipment function and report malfunctions;
" Maintain a safe level of supplies;
" Other related duties as required.
Salary:
" NS-28 of the RNUNL Salary Scales, ($37.86 to $47.16) while in the program; upon successful completion of the program, NS - 31 of the RNUNL Salary Scales, $41.79 - $51.66 per hour plus the applicable Labrador Allowance.
Hours of Work:
" 75 hours Bi-weekly; variable shifts.
Enhanced Incentive:
" Successful applicants who are currently completing the 3rd or 4th year of an approved nursing program are eligible to receive an enhanced incentive of both a bursary and a signing bonus. A return in service agreement will be required.
