Title:Facilities Maintenance Technician
Location: Dartmouth NS
Reporting to: District Equipment Manager
Start Date: ASAP

Miller Waste Systems Inc. has been in operation since 1961. Miller is a leader in waste management and diversion, providing governments and industries with a wide range of services in the provinces of Ontario, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Manitoba. Miller has over 50 years’ experience in the waste management sector, and currently operates out of more than 30 locations. We are looking for a highly capable Facilities Maintenance Technician to be located out of our Dartmouth location in Nova Scotia.
Main Responsibilities:
In the position of Facilities Maintenance Technician, responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
  • Must perform daily preventative check lists and record condition of equipment, following the preventative maintenance program at the Dartmouth Compost Facility and all other properties operated by Miller Waste in the Atlantic District.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair breakdowns on sorting equipment and lines as well as coordinate all repairs necessary for other locations in the Atlantic District.
  • Compactor repairs and maintenance at customer locations.
  • Coordinate all needs from contractors that are providing service to facilities and operations.
  • Work with the operations team to understand their needs and provide appropriate action plans to complete needed services.
  • Travel to various company locations within NS/NB as needed to provide required services.
  • Liaise with the Facilities Manager at our corporate office to lead local initiatives that are in-line with company requirements for all Miller locations.
Essential Requirements:
The ideal candidate will have the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • Knowledge of heavy equipment and conveyor systems is required.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and respectable driving record.
  • General knowledge of waste compactors and their operation.
  • Electrical repair experience and general knowledge is an asset.
  • Must be able to work as part of a team and be highly organized.
  • Must be able to work with little supervision and have the ability to manage their workflow effectively.
  • Must have a safety-first mindset and abide by all Miller Waste safety protocols.
  • Previous equipment maintenance experience is required.
  • Knowledge of and past experience with sprinkler systems is an asset.
  • Past experience in coordinating with contractors to provide services is an asset.
  • Millwright/Industrial Mechanic Certification is an asset.
  • Must follow all Miller Waste policies and procedures, including COVID-19 guidelines.
  • Must be available on weekends, holidays, and work overtime when required to meet operational requirements.
Background:
At the outset, this role is primarily to provide maintenance services at the Dartmouth Compost Facility. As that contract ends, this position will transition into a District-wide role, providing maintenance guidance and services at all Miller locations within NS/NB.
