Faculty Arts, Entrepreneurship
The School of the Arts is seeking an instructor to teach Entrepreneurship to students in the Digital Fabrication and Design program located on the Trail campus. DFAB 205 Entrepreneurship is a one-credit, 15-hour course in which students develop an idea or design to market, analyse market opportunities, develop a draft business plan, and present a pitch deck. The small class size allows for simulating a start-up environment and other experiential modes of teaching. The course will be taught over six weeks with some flexibility in scheduling and time for preparation. The successful applicant will share Selkirk’s student-centered values and mission “to provide personal experiences that build confident and imaginative learners ready to thrive in their community and in our dynamic world.”
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver teaching strategies and assessments that meet course learning outcomes
- Evaluate student progress and provide constructive feedback
- Ensure program alignment with industry trends, best practices, and innovation
- Provide support and cooperative assistance to students
- Create and maintain a positive and respectful learning environment, while acting with professionalism at all times
- Maintain student records, grades, and course outlines, while adhering to institutional standards and expectations for professional practice
- Other related duties as assigned by the School Chair
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- Excellent communication, team work, and time management skills
- A solid understanding of entrepreneurship, market analysis, business plans, and pitch presentations
- Demonstrated project management skills
- Evidence of innovation and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of patents is an asset
- Knowledge of funding sources and grants for small businesses is an asset
Education and Experience
- Successful completion of a degree in a related program such as marketing or business. Lesser qualifications may be considered with relevant experience.
- Applicants must have 3 - 5 years of directly related experience.
- Post-secondary teaching experience is an asset.
- Demonstrated curriculum development skills is an asset.
This is a short-term, part-time (13%) position commencing January 23, 2024 and ending March 15, 2024. Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Selkirk College Faculty Association Collective Agreement, Schedule A. The salary range is $2,630.19 to $4,214.77 bi-weekly (at 100% appointment) and is based on qualifications and experience.
