Role and Facility Information
The Sparling East Medical Centre is a 9-physician clinic on Fernie's iconic main street. We are looking for a rural family practitioner to work in the clinic along with responsibilities at the Elk Valley Hospital.
The Elk Valley Hospital is a busy and challenging 20-bed, rural hospital set in the picturesque Elk Valley. The Elk Valley Hospital serves as a hub for the South Country and for the Primary and Community Health Centres in the neighbouring communities of Sparwood and Elkford, respectively. Elk Valley Hospital services approximately 18,000 people in Fernie, Sparwood, Elkford and the south country.
Each physician sets their own clinic schedule balancing it with their hospital work. Duties would include approximately 20 hours per week of direct patient longitudinal care in clinic, and participation in the emergency rotation with approximately 6-8 shifts per month (0800-1600, 1600-2400, 2400-0800, 7 days per week, subject to change). Our clinic offers friendly helpful MOAs, a chronic disease management nurse, a social worker, an occupational therapist and a social worker. Our patient population is diverse with a mixture of young families, coal industry employees, seniors and seasonal visitors. We value quality patient care as well as quality of life.
As part of your practice, you will be responsible for your inpatients when admitted, and for patients at Rocky Mountain Village (with the opportunity to sign out on weekends). You will be expected to participate in the duty doc/ hospitalist program (care for unattached patients during the week and signed out patients on the weekend) that is equally shared among all the Fernie physicians (approximately 2 weeks every six months).
