Job Requirements:
Experience operating motorized equipment, such as tractors. Experience operating farming equipment such as sprayers, seeders, and combines is considered an asset.
Basic understanding of equipment parts and the ability to perform basic maintenance on motorized equipment, such as oil changes, greasing tractors, topping up and checking of fluids, switching out tractor implements, changing tires, etc.
No specific education is required for this position, but any previous experience with crop research and/or working in agriculture as well as mechanics is considered and asset and will be reflected in the wage negotiations for the position.
The terms of employment for this position are up for discussion between the eligible candidate and NARF. This may be a summer job (May through August) for a university/college student with farm experience, an after-hours job for someone looking for secondary income, or even a full-time permanent position if the candidate has the right qualifications, such as a diploma or degree in agriculture.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Perform regular maintenance of NARFs equipment inventory, such as oil changes, fluid top-ups, greasing, etc. This will include but is not limited to half ton trucks, tractors, ATV/UTV, 1 seeder and 2 plot combines.
Keep accurate records of maintenance and any equipment issues for NARF records.
Train NARF summer students in safety of operating motorized equipment, specifically tractors.
Operate all equipment during the growing season, such as driving the seeder at seeding time, applying blanket and treatment sprayer applications throughout the spring, summer and fall, seeding pathways, mowing, etc.
Communicate and arrange maintenance with 3rd party contractors for any maintenance that can not be done inhouse.
