Job Description

This role will perform strategic and tactical fleet / automotive analysis for Purolator’s ground fleet regarding maintenance practices for both in-house and with Purolator-approved outside vendor suppliers. This engineer will also work closely with the OEMs to finalize /improve Fleet specs to continuously help design more efficient and ergonomically safe vehicles for our couriers and operations team and assess terminal route requirements to ensure the “Right size vehicle” fits the route cargo volume and weight and route to optimize cost per km.

Responsibilities

  • Identify future fleet types/fuel (sustainability) i.e.: EV Bikes, LSV, curbsides, B-C type vehicles, on highway tractor trailers, to optimize Cost /km and meet corporate sustainability targets
  • Design and implement through the RFMs standard times and checklists for PM inspections on these particular and current fleet vehicles. The goal is to optimize productivity in-house and through third-party suppliers and reduce overall HFR and costs.
  • Work closely with Fleet OEM suppliers to enhance current specs and design new features for safety, productivity, and ergonomics with sight on maintenance intervals and repair times.
  • Design, develop and maintain analytical tools to automate PM planning and predictive maintenance by utilizing available CMMS data and system alongside inputs from Telematics / Geotab and WFA.
  • Work closely with OEMs to understand the new and available vehicle features and build the business case to justify the expense and benefits, help introduce these new features into the fleet and operations.

    Qualifications

  • 5 years of experience in mechanical engineering and an automotive-related industry.
  • Over 4 years and including 5 years (generally progressive experience)
  • Knowledge of Automotive components and CMVSS Canadian automotive regulations
  • Engineering degree preferably in mechanical engineering
  • Should have some automotive/fleet experience in Maintenance practices and vehicle spec’ing experience
  • Lean six sigma experience for continuous improvement
  • Creating business cases, presentation skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Experience in building business cases for upper management
  • Working in a team environment and able to build consensus and buy-in on new processes
