The Job – Water Damage Technician
At On Side, Water Damage Technicians (WDTs) go wherever a burst pipe, blocked drain, sewer backup (yes, sometimes it’s one of those situations) or other water-related disaster calls.
This position will have a focus on our Health Care work, cleanliness and attention to detail are key factors.
Understanding the urgency of the situation and working with customers in a caring, calm and empathetic manner are paramount to the success of a WDTs day! Working as a team, WDTs mop up the mess to ensure everything is shipshape and ready to get back to the pre-disaster state.
What you bring:
A WDT brings a bunch of abilities to their work, the most important being a ‘get it done!’ attitude. Additional abilities include:
- Mechanical aptitude— you can look at something and just know how it works
- Ability to work with a variety of hand tools
- Detail oriented when it comes to cleanliness: mitigating contaminants and dust. This is for Health Care and cleanliness is key
- Organized with a good sense of time— you’re rarely late and know where all your tools are
- Physically fit— Water Damage can, at times, include heavy lifting and getting into (and out of) tight places
- Demolition- careful, mindful, good housekeeping
- A safety-first mindset
- Ability to travel within province
- Follow directions
- Work independently
- Reliable
- Customer service
- Strong work ethic
- Valid driver’s licence & clean drivers abstract
- Able to successfully satisfy On Side’s criminal record check requirements
- Ability to communicate in English at an intermediate level
- Since disasters can strike at any time, you are able to work a 24/7 after hours On-Call schedule (rotating among teammates)
Past industry experience (although not required) that can translate into success as a WDT includes: demolition work, carpenter, apprentice, construction labourer, plumber, farm hand, janitor, landscaper, vac truck operator, laborer, swamper, technician.
Other stuff that will contribute to your success but isn’t required:
- IICRC Water Damage Technician Certification (if you don’t have this, we’ll help you get it!)

Salary: $22.00-$28.00 per hour

Application question(s):
- Do you have experience with drying tools (air movers, negative air machines, pressurized drying systems, floor drying systems, dehumidifiers)?
- Are you physically fit and can be in tight spaces?
- Are you comfortable working in disaster environments such as Water Damage and fire damage?
- Do you have a valid IICRC certificate?
- Have you ever dealt with Water Damage from flooding in a home or business?
- Are you willing to follow a strategic plan in place for cleaning and preparing a job? Will you be aware of your surroundings and follow strict instructions to keep area safe and organized?
- Are you able to work longer hours when required: 10-12 hours per day?
- Are you capable of: frequent lifting from 5-40 lbs, unassisted (from 35-65% of the time) • Occasional lifting from 41 lbs +, assisted (up to 50% of the time)?
- Are you able to work On-Call outside your regular hours (evenings/weekends), rotating with teammates?
- Are you interested in working beyond the scheduled 40 hours?
Experience:
- Construction: 1 year (preferred)
- Demolition: 1 year (preferred)
Licence/Certification:
- Canadian Driver's License (required)
