Reporting to the General Manager, the Food Safety and EH&S Coordinator will be responsible for the execution of local and Corporate Food Safety and EHS programs, policies and processes. This individual will have a dotted line reporting to the Regional Food Safety Director and the Regional EH&S Manager.
Role Responsibilities:
Food Safety:
- Execute local and Corporate Food Safety-related programs, policies and processes
- Manage HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) plan and pre-requisite programs
- Ensure compliance with applicable Food Safety regulatory requirements
- Handle and oversee product recall process to ensure timely communication and execution of appropriate procedures, and completion of documentation
- Conduct Food Safety observations of key associates performing Food Safety activities
- Routinely audit Food Safety practices, evaluate site performance and provide feedback to internal stakeholders
- Other duties as assigned
EH&S
- Main point of contact for onsite EHS-related matters
- Provide cyclical reporting for SyscoSafe and other EHS programs and initiatives
- Assist and coordinate with incident investigations including, but not limited to First Aid, WorksafeBC, ICBC and near misses
- Transportation Safety Administrator for Smith System & Defensive Driving
- Coordinate JHSC Meetings and monthly inspections including Racking
- Job Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessments
- Assist in developing safe work practices & procedures
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Job Requirements:
- Minimum 2 years food industry experience in areas such as distribution, QA, food production or equivalent
- Completion of post-secondary education in Food Science, Safety or equivalent
- Previous experience in GFSI audits, SQF or BRC preferred
- Basic knowledge of food microbiology, Food Safety and food defense
- Working knowledge of product traceability and stock management a bonus
- Familiarity with WHMIS, Health & Safety and FSQA practices considered an asset
- Excellent communication skills and ability to converse with all levels of the organization
- Strong analytical and decision making skills; ability to make sound judgement independently
- Frequent physical exertion and lifting of up to 20+ lbs. required
