Job description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Food Safety Program Manager (FSPM) to join our team in Richmond, BC.

Reporting to the Regional Director of Food Safety, the FSPM, will be responsible for driving Corporate Food Safety strategy at the local level to mitigate Food Safety risk through implementation of the filed level risk-based Food Safety preventive controls program of their assigned site(s). This including leading product recall executing and communication, implementation of requirements, policies, procedures, and training components of the Food Safety system, and working with Operations to seek continuous improvement in Food Safety KPIs.

Responsibilities:

  • Execute all corporate Food Safety related strategies, policies, and procedures.
  • Work in close collaboration with cross-functional teams to identify Food Safety hazards and opportunities for process improvements.
  • Manage Food Safety Preventive Controls Program, inclusive of Pre-requisite Programs, HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) Plan, Food Safety Policies and specific SOPs.
  • Complete verification activities associated with all Preventive Controls programs.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable Food Safety regulatory requirements (Federal, Provincial and Local).
  • Documents control and management including updating corporate standard operating procedures, policies, and templates.
  • Provide oversight and training for maintaining the facility cleanliness and sanitation standards.
  • Routinely measure operational sanitation program to ensure compliance.
  • Manage produce recall process including communications with internal and external stakeholders, execution of product recalls and completing accurate documentation.
  • Management of Food Defense program to ensure compliance and requirements are carried out in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Manages to decrease risk of Intentional Adulteration.
  • Manage Sysco’s participation in Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI), audits by SQF, independent third parties, customers, internal, and regulatory entities.
  • Analyze audit results and present corrective action plans to internal stakeholders.
  • Complete Regulatory Visit Report and document corrective and preventive action plans for non-conformances identified in Local, Provincial, Federal regulatory inspections.
  • Conduct Food Safety observations of key associates performing Food Safety activities.
  • Routinely audit Food Safety practices (internal audits, cross dock and shuttle yard facility audits, delivery inspections) to objectively evaluate performance and provide feedback to other personnel as necessary to ensure compliance with Preventive Controls Program and any Regulatory requirements (federal, state/provincial, and local).
  • Provide data to support reporting on Operating Company Food Safety compliance and overall performance against Food Safety KPIs.
  • eliver and tracks program training for new hires for all site Key Role associates and supervisors/associates with direct Food Safety program responsibilities.
  • Serve as the Food Safety customer lead at the site.
  • Verify Food Safety capabilities, Food Safe conditions and execution of Food Safety procedures of any potential third-party warehouses that are intended to be used for over-flow storage. Routinely audit ongoing food safe conditions as well as operational Food Safety practices of all approved over-flow food storage warehouses.
  • Main point of contact for Food Safety related complaints from customers and provide resolution to internal and external stakeholders as needed.
  • Collaborate with Regional Food Safety Director to complete annual Food Safety Program reassessments; communicate and implement required changes with site’s stakeholders and others as necessary.
  • Conduct formal presentations and tours for internal teams or customers.
  • Complies with Sysco’s Food Safety Policy and procedures to ensure Food Safety, quality and legality requirements are met.
  • Is willing to work safely with minimal environmental impact and understands the importance of reporting all hazards, incidents, and environmental spills immediately to their supervisor.
  • Understands that they play an integral role in their own safety and that of their colleagues and is willing to speak out when hazards are present.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree (Food Science, Animal Science, Biological Science or related)
  • Technical proficiency in the areas of Food Safety, food microbiology, food chemistry, animal science, biology, food defense, bacteriology, food processing technologies, and food regulations & policy.
  • Certification in HACCP, Auditing, GFSI is preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Quality Assurance/Control, Research & Development, Food Production/Operations, in a supervisory or management capacity, or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of product traceability.
  • Experience as a GFSI (SQF, BRC) practitioner is highly desirable.
  • Understanding of Food Safety regulations, laws, and best practices including those from SFCR and CFIA provincial/local entities.
  • Basic knowledge of food microbiology, Food Safety, and food defense.

  • 3500 Viking Way, Richmond, BC

Core Working Hours:

  • Monday-Friday- 8:30am- 5:00pm
