Alcove’s mission is to operate residential recovery facilities for women who experience the co-occurring issues of addiction, mental health distress and a history of abuse.
To assist in the recovery of our clients, we recognize the requirement to provide nutritious well balanced meals to the women and children who stay with us. Alcove is currently recruiting for a Food Service/Cook to plan, prepare and serve healthy meals and snacks for the residents of Alcove's 24 hour residential facility. Schedule days Sunday thru to Thursday.
This position reports to the Executive Director, and this position is best suited to a candidate who is self-directed, organized and goal oriented and interested in working within an environment of care for others.
MEAL PREPARATION
- Plan meals weekly based on the number of clients in residence at the time while considering clients with food allergies, gluten free diets, allergies etc.
- Prepare food using healthy choices and substitutions following the Canada Food guide and low carbohydrate and low fat cooking
- Determine supplies needed for the week and order accordingly, ability to pick up food supplies would be an asset
- Follow menu and adjust it depending on the seasonality or availability of food and donations received
- Maintaining a clean, well organized kitchen
- Clean, stock, restock workstations, and fridges
- Order and take delivery of supplies
- Portion and serve food to facility clients and guests
- Prepare meals and snacks daily and pre-make meals for two days per week
SAFETY
- You must possess a current food handler's permit to show competency in health codes pertaining to safety and sanitation of the work area and cooking utensils; and how to properly prepare food to avoid food-borne illnesses
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- Food Safety and Food handlers course
- 1-3 years related experience in preparation of meals for a residential program
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
- Excellent organizational, time management and communication skills
- A team spirited self starter with high energy who enjoys a complex, fast paced work environment
- Positive perspective is focused on performance and excellent judgment
- An awareness of boundaries and an understanding of the expectations of the role are critical
- Ability to adhere to a budget and use creativity and care in food preparation
- Ability to design menu with food provided through donations (food bank, etc.)

Salary: $18.00-$24.00 per hour
