Duties:
- Supervise, direct and co-ordinate the activities of the Nutrition and Food Service Department
- Manages and controls resources and materials to ensure quality, adequacy of supply and cost control within budgetary guidelines
- Consults with Registered Dietitian as necessary on clinical issues
- Writes therapeutic diets according to diet prescription and department manual
- Ensures proper sanitation and safety within the Food Service department
- Conducts meal service audits and executes action plans as required
- Observes and records food quality for the purposes of quality control and improvement
- To be a resources to the unit for their expertise and education
- Ensures a work environment that is conducive to The Royal’s Anti-Racism, Discrimination and Harassment-Free Workplace policy.
- Work in a manner that is in compliance with staff and patient/client safety practices, policies and procedures of The Royal.
Qualifications:
- Eligibility for membership with the Canadian Society of Nutrition Manager (CSNM)
- Graduate of an accredited Food and Nutrition Program or a baccalaureate degree program with a major in Food and Nutrition
- A minimum of two years of recent work experience with varied responsibilities for therapeutics, administration and supervision, preferably in a unionized healthcare setting
- Sound knowledge of hospital policies/procedures and relevant parts of legislation such as Public Health Act, Food Premises Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act to ensure compliance with standards of sanitation, food safety, proper equipment operation and utilization
- Excellent supervisory skills, with ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines.
- Organizational, problem solving and decision-making skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, good judgment, tact, and the ability to motivate and lead staff.
- English level A- is mandatory in oral expression, oral comprehension, reading comprehension and written expression. Bilingual is an asset.
