Job Status: Limited Position (Funded Position)
Estimated Probable Duration: Two (2) Years
Affiliation: Inside Unit
Hours of Work: 70 hours bi-weekly
Shift Work Required: No
Range of Pay: Group 10 - $28.69 to $34.64 per hour (subject to review)

The start date will follow the selection process.

This position is eligible to work remotely on a part-time basis.

Characteristic Duties: Under the general supervision of the Manager of Strategic and Environmental Planning, and the day-to-day direction of the Climate Change Co-ordinator.

1. Coordinate and administer the implementation of the Greater Sudbury Food Strategy, addressing all sectors, documenting progress, and accomplishments, in partnership with and reporting regularly to the Greater Sudbury Food Policy Council.
2. Coordinate and implement a range of Food Systems initiatives including developing, updating, monitoring, and interpreting City policies and guidelines related to food security and food production.
3. Monitor and interpret City policies and guidelines related to food security and food production initiatives.
4. Liaise with and provide guidance to community groups interested in food production projects on City held lands.
5. Coordinate meetings and facilitate working groups.
6. Work collaboratively with First Nations, community members, businesses, associations, and non-profit organizations to assess needs and provide guidance and support in areas such as coordination, partnership development and fundraising related to Food Systems.
7. Compile and analyze data to identify opportunities for collaboration or further exploration to maintain a Food Systems database.
8. Develop educational material and campaigns, networking opportunities and events related to the local Food Systems.
9. Liaise with regulatory agencies, First Nations, funding sources, the public, producers, food-related non-profit organizations, businesses and CGS staff regarding healthy food access and literacy; growing food (not for profit); forest and freshwater foods; food retail, service, and tourism; agriculture and food processing.
10. Seek additional funding for projects and activities.
11. Develop and maintain a thorough working knowledge of CGS’s Safety Manual and the applicable provincial legislation listed therein.
12. Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • College diploma in Agriculture, Environment, Community Development, Economic Development, Community Planning, or other related discipline from a recognized College with Canadian accreditation.
  • Over two and one-half (2½) years up to and including five (5) years of related and responsible experience in the management/coordination of Food Systems programs or related field while working with multiple community partners; experience in developing and implementing projects and plans.
  • Working knowledge of applicable legislation and related regulations.
  • Ability to work with computer software and administrative systems in a Windows environment (e.g., file maintenance, word processing, spreadsheet applications, information input and retrieval, etc.).
  • Demonstrate strong organizational, numeric sense, administrative, planning, communications, interpersonal, project management and good judgement skills.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in written, media, and social media communications and developing promotional material.
  • Demonstrate interpersonal skills in dealing with the public, staff, and outside agencies in a courteous and effective manner.
  • Demonstrate experience with food system issues and/or community and economic development.
  • Experience in WordPress and/or ESRI an asset.
  • Experience in qualitative analysis and survey development an asset.
  • Excellent use of English; verbally and in writing.
  • French verbal and written skills an asset.
  • Satisfactory health, attendance, and former employment history.
  • Must be physically capable of operating a vehicle, possess a valid driver’s licence, have an acceptable driving record, and personal insurance coverage.

This job is also being posted as a development opportunity. Should there be no fully qualified candidate for this position, a candidate who can be expected to meet the required qualifications within a reasonable period of time may be considered for this position as a development opportunity.

Development opportunity range of pay: $27.90 to $33.01 per hour (subject to review). The successful candidate will be paid at the reduced range until the minimum qualifications have been met.
