To run programs and social enterprises that increase physical and financial access to nutritious food among people facing food insecurity.


Brief Description:


The SEED is a community food project of the Guelph Community Health Centre. About 16% of households in Guelph are food insecure (Guelph Wellbeing study, 2014). The SEED’s goal is to change that by offering programs and services that tackle the root causes of poverty. We are supported by hundreds of amazing community members and by many partner organizations.


About Fresh Food Prescriptions:


Within this program, doctors and healthcare practitioners prescribe Fresh Food to community members who need it for their health. Participants redeem their prescriptions for free fruits and vegetables. CHC clients who have been identified as food insecure are given $10/person/household/week to be used in our online store, and the fruit and veg they select are delivered right to their door. These participants also have access to the free food section of the online grocery store, anything they select is delivered directly to their homes as well. This program is funded through a mix of government and foundation grants.


Specific duties and roles for this position:


  • Individual Coupon Tracking and uploading
  • Assist with fund development, grant writing, and grant reporting
  • Support Research Activities
  • Supervise/Support FFRx research assistants, volunteers, customer service
  • Support budget tracking
  • Liaise with other GCHC staff re. FFRx
  • Provide support to participants as part of a team
  • Work with interpreters
  • Attend regional meetings with Guelph Wellington Ontario Health Team partner’s to support the development of regional FFRX programming
  • Work collaboratively with regional partners to support the increase of food access as it relates to FFRX
  • Participate in the development of an advisory group
  • Meet with project partners and participate in the development of the program towards grant-based and participant-informed outcomes
  • Support third party evaluation of the program and follow up on recommendations from process and outcome results

Qualifications


  • Understanding of Food Insecurity
  • Experience with Community Health Initiatives: Familiarity with community health programs and the ability to work within the framework of a community health center to achieve its vision.
  • Program Management Skills

  • Fundraising and Grant Management
  • Budget Management: Proficiency in supporting budget tracking for a program funded through mixed sources.
  • Collaboration and Teamwork
  • Communication Skills
  • Adaptability: Flexibility to support the evolution of the program based on grant-based and participant-informed outcomes, including participating in third-party evaluations and implementing recommendations.
  • Experience supervising or supporting a team, including research assistants and volunteers, in a supportive and inclusive manner.
