A Furniture Repair Technician, also known as a Furniture repair Specialist or furniture Restoration Technician, is responsible for repairing and restoring various types of furniture to its original condition or improving its overall appearance and functionality. This job involves a combination of carpentry, upholstery, and refinishing skills.
Assessment
- Examine furniture to identify issues, such as broken parts, loose joints, damaged upholstery, scratches, dents, and stains.
Repairs
- Replace or repair damaged or missing parts (e.g., legs, arms springs)
- Fix loose joints and frames.
- Patching and refinishing wood surfaces
- Replacing or re-stuffing cushions and padding
- Repairing or replacing damaged upholstery, fabric, or leather
- Re-Gluing, re assembling, and reinforcing furniture components.
- Provide customer directions for future use and care of the product,
- Document and complete service reports.
Refinishing
- Sand, strip and refinish wooden furniture to restore its original appearance or give it a new look. This may involve staining, painting, or applying varnish or lacquer.
Upholstery
- Reupholster furniture by removing old fabric and padding, repairing the frame, if necessary, then attaching new upholstery materials.
Color Matching
- Ensure that repaired and refinished parts match the original color and finish of the furniture.
Use of tools and equipment
- Operate a variety of hand and power tools, including saws, drills, sanders, and sewing machines, as well as woodworking and upholstery tools.
Customer Interaction
- Interact with customers to discuss repair options, provide cost estimates, and advise on maintenance to prevent future damage.
Documentation
- Maintain records of repairs, including details of the work performed, Materials used, and customer information.
Quality Assurance
- Ensure that repaired furniture meets industry standards for safety and functionality and aesthetics.
Safety
- Follow safety protocols and guidelines when using tools and equipment to prevent accidents and injuries.
- Use proper lifting and bending procedures to prevent accidents and injuries.

Salary: From $28.00 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 40 per week
