The Role
Gas Bar Operators are responsible for ensuring the safe and courteous operation of the Gas Bar. Primary responsibilities are described below. Responsibilities also include all tasks assigned to the Service Champions.
Accountabilities:
Premium Customer Service
Providing consistent Superior Customer Service to everyone who visits the Gas Bar.
Responding to questions and suggestions from customers and employees.
Answering customer questions knowledgeably.
Assisting customers, as necessary.
Employee Training
Ensuring all employees are trained in: WHMIS, TDG, fire safety, emergency response (including environmental incidents), customer service, use of all equipment and operational procedures.
Ensuring new employees are trained upon employment.
Ensuring all employees receive annual health and safety refresher training.
Ensuring that records of training are maintained, including the date, name of attendees, and subjects covered.
Employee Access to Information
Ensuring that this manual is kept as a reference in a place accessible to all employees.
Ensuring that emergency response procedures are posted in the kiosk.
Ensuring that emergency contact phone numbers are posted in the kiosk.
Inventory Control
- Ensuring that gasoline inventory control procedures are carried out and that records are maintained as described elsewhere in this manual.
Incident Response
- Ensuring that all incidents and accidents are reported promptly to appropriate personnel, including: product shortages, health and safety incidents, and environmental incidents.
- Ensuring proper incident handling and investigation.
Gasoline Pricing
- Confirming pump and sign price accuracy.
- Reporting competition price changes to appropriate personnel and changing prices in accordance with the pricing guidelines.
- Promptly changing pricing upon request from Fuel Operations.
- Conducting competitive pricing surveys for gasoline and obtaining approval from District Manager or Fuel Director for any price changes necessary during a retail price war.
- No Fuel Price can be given out over the phone to customers.
Scheduling
- Completing weekly staff schedules.
- Completing exemptions in Kronos.
Staffing
- Hiring attendants, as required.
- Notifying Fuel Operations or District Manager of staffing changes (e.g., hiring, resignations) and/or needs or issues.
- Recommending termination or disciplinary action of non-performing staff to District Manager.
- Completing the Yearly Refresher checklist for all staff.
Kiosk
- Ensuring all price tickets for items sold from the kiosk are accurate.
- Ordering replenishment stock of items sold from the kiosk.
- Retrieving replenishment items from the parent store.
Financial
- Ensuring proper cash handling and reporting procedures are adhered to.
- Communicating Drive Offs to District Manager and Security.
Environmental
- Ensuring all appropriate environmental documentation is up-to-date.
- Confirming that (where required) tank registration certificates are posted (i.e., Alberta).
- Responding to incidents in accordance with procedures described elsewhere in this manual.
Health and Safety
- Provide commitment and support in the development and maintenance of the Health and Safety Program.
Fuel Delivery
- Following procedures for accepting fuel.
- Ensuring proper Bill of Lading reconciliation procedures are adhered to.
Staff Appearance and Grooming
- Ensure all site staff wear approved uniform.
- Ensure all site staff are neat and clean in appearance.
Operations
- Completing daily and monthly checklist.
- Completing all daily/weekly reconciliations.
3.2.2 Team Coordinator
Introduction
The Team Coordinator is a Gas Bar attendant that is designated by the Gas Bar Operator to act on his/her behalf when unavailable. Primary responsibilities are discussed below.
Responsibilities
Customer Service
- Providing consistent Superior Customer Service to everyone who visits the Gas Bar.
- Responding to questions and suggestions from customers and employees.
Inventory Control
- Ensuring that gasoline inventory control procedures are carried out and those records are maintained as described elsewhere in this manual.
Incident Response
- Ensuring that all incidents and accidents are reported promptly to appropriate personnel, including: product shortages, health and safety incidents, and environmental incidents.
- Ensuring proper incident handling.
Gasoline Pricing

- Confirming mandatory site safety and fire protection equipment is in place and operating properly (first aid kit, fire extinguishers and spill kit).
- Confirming that mandatory signage is in place and is legible, including:
- i.“No Smoking, Turn off Ignition, No cell phone, Do not block nozzle”
- ii. Octane ratings
- iii. Approved portable container sign
- iv. “Do not leave nozzle unattended while refueling”.
- Confirming that site is kept neat, clean, and well-stocked in accordance with FastFuel’s Superior Service Strategy.
- Reporting maintenance and/or upgrade requirements promptly to the Fuel Operations and District Manager.
- Completing daily inspection of site and following up on any identified deficiencies.
Security
- Ensuring CCTV is operational.
- Maintaining tank locks.
- Maintaining canopy light timer.

Skills and Requirements
CMS requires Operators to bring excellent customer service skills to ensure the highest quality experience for everyone.
- Applicants must possess 5 years’ experience in the retail, convenience or the fueling industry;
- Applicants holding a Business Management certificate education;
