General Farm Hand

Position Description

The Farm Hand will be responsible for assisting the Manager of Farm Operations in carrying out the operational requirements of a full-scale livestock farming operation and agricultural estate based in Uxbridge, Ontario. The role will be full-time with additional part-time weekend work on a semi-regular basis throughout the year. The Farm Hand will report directly to the Manager of Farm Operations.

The position will be divided into three primary coverage areas:

1. Livestock Farming Operations

Key duties and responsibilities include:

- Feeding and tending to livestock (cattle, goats, chickens)
- Assisting in moving and sorting of livestock, including preparing for transportation off-site
- Farm machinery operation, including tractor and skid steer, bush hogging pastures, feeding bales and snow removal
-Preventative and routine maintenance on farm equipment and machinery, including servicing, power-washing and other critical self-servicing that is farm-related
- Preventative and routine maintenance on farm buildings, including cleaning out cattle/goat barn when necessary and assisting with annual power-wash of inside barns
- Assisting in meat order deliveries and customer order pickups

2. Acreage/Estate Operations

Key operational duties and responsibilities include:

- Build and mend fencing
- Cut and collect firewood
- General oversight and routine maintenance of other acreage infrastructure and perimeters

3. Property Management Support

At the direction of the Manager of Farm Operations, providing support to the Manager of Property Services with discrete projects and tasks throughout the agricultural estate, excluding personal residences.

Qualifications

- Able to work independently with minimal supervision as well as part of a team
- Demonstrates positive attitude and willingness to learn new skills
- Demonstrates communication, problem solving and critical thinking skills
- Able to perform physical tasks that require strength, coordination and dexterity
- Able to show up to work on time and ready to work
- Must have flexibility in scheduling and willingness to work weekends and holidays
- Willing to work until the task is complete, which can require longer hours from time to time
- Able to execute all tasks in a safe manner
- Comfortable around farm animals and able to follow animal welfare standards
- Experience with agriculture or farm animals is considered critical
- On the job training will be provided as necessary

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: $20.00-$25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 – 50 per week
