Reporting to the Director of Operations, the General Manager is responsible for overseeing public transit operations, operated under contract with BC Transit, throughout the West Kootenay Region based from an office in Trail, BC.

What You Bring:
- Degree or Diploma in Business Administration or Transportation Administration (or working towards); a combination of related training and experience will be considered
- Several years’ experience in roles of progressively greater responsibility in Transportation Operations
- Labour and employee relations experience, including management in unionized workplaces
- Experience managing budgets and overseeing shop/vehicle maintenance
- Desire to lead large teams and encourage them to perform at their very best
- Proven ability to engage employees and develop strategies to increase retention
- Exceptional organizational, communication, analytic problem solving, and diplomacy skills
- Knowledge of/experience with Computer Hardware, Associated Software and Systems (i.e. vehicle tracking programs, scheduling/dispatch programs)
- “Lead by Example” attitude towards all staff
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (primarily Excel and Outlook)
What You Do:
- Inspire, coach, mentor, build, develop, and support a team of dedicated transportation professionals (drivers, mechanics, dispatchers etc.) to deliver business objectives
- Create a work environment aligned with the organization’s desire to be Employer of Choice, ensuring that people resources possess the required skills, are properly aligned, and are provided with the resources to do the job
- Implement initiatives designed to increase employee engagement and improve recruitment and retention
- Administer and manage relevant operating agreements, budgets, and contracts; review and approve expenditures and service standards; meet service delivery objectives and manage division activities within budgetary limits
- Forecast, document and report Key Performance Indicators to measure the effectiveness of the transit operations and develop strategies to correct problem areas
- Remain current with latest transportation technology systems and procedures
- Recommend or authorize capital expenditures for acquisition of new equipment or property to increase efficiency and services of transit operations
- Negotiate collective agreements, evaluate and respond to grievances, and address other workplace issues
- Conduct collision/incident and customer complaint investigations and make recommendations and action plans to prevent recurrence
- Prepare for and participate in division audits such as COR (WorkSafe BC) and NSC
Remuneration:
$90,000 - 95,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications.
