We are actively looking to fill the following Full-time Contract role based at our exploration site located in Kirkland Lake, Ontario. Contract Starting May 2024, and ending August 31, 2024.

  • Geology Summer StudentCore Logging – 2024-14

Scope of the role

Under the direction of the Manager of Technical Services, the incumbent is responsible for assisting with cutting, sampling and logging diamond drill core. The incumbent will also be responsible for drill site visits and core retrieval. The Core Logging Student must be a physically fit individual in order to complete labour required on a daily basis.

The incumbent must possess reasonable communication skills in order to interact with technicians, geologists and others in the workplace to ensure that required duties are completed to satisfaction. This includes the responsibility of keeping a well-organized log of all drill core and core sample status. Good housekeeping and safe work practices are essential.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Committing to a safe and healthy work environment for self, and colleagues
  • Logging of diamond drill core. Following all QA/QC standards.
  • Handling and transferring of drill core from drill site to core facility via truck.
  • Assisting geologists and other technicians with handling of drill core within the core facility
  • Responsible for keeping well organized log of all drill core samples
  • Labelling of samples and core boxes and documenting un-sampled core.
  • Drill core culling – dumping of drill core deemed to be non-essential
  • Drill core re-boxing – re-boxing of essential drill core
  • Drill core re-tagging – creating and applying identification tags to core boxes
  • Miscellaneous paperwork and filing
  • Follow departmental safety program and maintain safety standards
  • Maintaining a clean work environment.
  • Such other duties as may be assigned

Qualifications, Skills and Knowledge

  • Previous Core Logging work would be an asset but will train
  • Geology Student – 3rd year university/college or better preferred
  • Ability to safely use small hand tools
  • Basic MS Office functionality
  • Valid G class driver's license required
