SUMMARY

Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory is a unique and high profile tourist attraction. We provide customer-service-focused education that promotes the appreciation of butterflies and other invertebrates and highlights the important role these animals play in our ecosystem. This role interacts with guests as they explore the gift store and maintains the toys and merchandise on display. The Gift Shop Clerk will work closely with the Gift Store and Guest Services Manager and will assist with a diverse assortment of Guest Services duties that reflect the immediate needs of the organization. Typical daily responsibilities of the Gift Shop Clerk include assisting guests and processing transactions. In addition, the incumbent will support operations in other departments such as Admissions and Café as required.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the Gift Store & Guest Services Manager with all aspects of the retail store
  • Greet visitors and advise them of the facility layout, discuss featured exhibits, special events, tours and café special
  • Engage visitors with information of the animals and plants in the Conservatory greenhouse and exhibits
  • Process admission tickets sales on the cash register as well as Gift Store sales transactions
  • Partner with Gift Store and Guest Services Manager on all daily retail store operations to support a sales environment and achieve operational sales targets & loss prevention guidelines to protect merchandise and assets.
  • Ensure visual merchandising directives are implemented efficiently as per direction and visual standards are maintained at all times
  • Demonstrate safe cash/transaction handling practices and implement policies and procedures effectively
  • In accordance with the AODA Standards, the candidate will make every effort to ensure the store-front and foyer are free of hazards, clean and safe and assist persons with a disability and/or special needs to ensure they have an excellent visitor experience and support local priorities
  • Keep a clean and tidy workspace on a regular basis

Other

  • During peak times, assist and fill-in other frontline areas (i.e. Admissions, Gift Store, Café, Conservatory, etc.)
  • Other duties to support daily operations and customer service as assigned
  • Assist other departments as needed
  • Adhere to all Company policies, rules, systems and procedures which are outlined in the Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory Employee Handbook, as well as all Health and Safety policies and procedures and safe work practices

QUALIFICATIONS, REQUIREMENTS, & SKILLS

  • An interest in or pursuing post-secondary education in retail, visual merchandising, or a related field an asset
  • Experience working in retail or a customer service related setting as asset
  • Cash Handling practices an asset
  • Adapt with changing job requirements and goals based on business needs
  • Coordinate in a team environment and work with others to achieve shared goals
  • Identify issues and apply solutions to fix problems across the facility and grounds
  • Stay organized and manage time, priorities, & deadlines
  • Exchange thoughts and information with colleagues and customers through a variety of forms
  • Use digital technology through computer, tablet and other device’s software, systems, and applications
  • Police Background Check (Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check)

UNIFORM

Staff are required to wear the appropriate uniform, footwear and safety equipment at all times

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

This is a full-time fixed-term position. The shifts are typically from 9 am to 5 pm on both weekdays and weekends. The rate of pay is $17.50/hour.
