ADAMS LAKE INDIAN BAND JOB POSTING

Adams Lake Indian Band is seeking one fulltime GIS Technician to work under the direction of the Adams Lake Band’s Senior Stewardship Officer. The individual’s main responsibility will be the compilation, integration, development, updating, and maintenance to provide a complete range of GIS operation systems. As well, the individual will provide mapping support for the planning, reporting and analysis for the Adams Lake Band Natural Resource Department. This includes assisting the project field crews, performing field research, participating in data analysis, interpretation, and report preparation for any archaeology for the Adams Lake Band.


DUTIES INCLUDE

  • Utilizes digitizing works to incorporate assigned characteristics into maps.
  • Creates, up-dates, edits required maps, symbolizing layers on maps to show defining data and templates for site plans, planting maps and other usage. This would include compilation of datasets as new information gathered, maintaining updated Datasets (shape files) for arc map usage document field work data from Arc Map to notes and compile site forms, technical reports and maps for archaeology.
  • Maintains accurate and up to date systems, data files, reports, and records.
  • Assists with Archaeology, woodlot and for PFR mapping, reports as required field crews.
  • Liaise with other outside agencies, organizations, and groups. Receive forestry and other requests from proponents from incoming referrals and track using Community Knowledge Keeper (CKK) system. Performs silviculture data entry and updates government reporting information, including the tracking of development, silviculture, logging, and other obligations.
  • Processes client submission packages, sets up client accounts and enters data into Phoenix system, notifies clients once submission packages are completed.
  • Perform file searches using first nations, museum, university, and federal records.
  • Instruct and assist other field employees on methods of inventory and provide verbal and written instructions for specific tasks that they are required to perform.
  • Track work in progress, modifies work techniques and recording procedures as necessary.
  • Maintain and update personal update billing and forward provide to Natural Resources Administrative Officer for invoicing.
  • Provides technical support, other work or projects that may involve contracting services out.
  • Answers inquiries, provides information and forms as required.
  • Required to do some fieldwork and training to end users of the CKK system.
  • Familiarity with Cumulative Effects and programs like ALCES
  • Performs other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWELDGE AND SKILLS

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in related field
  • GIS Certificate or equivalent
  • Natural Resources Degree would be an asset.
  • Previous experience in GIS, Land Use Planning Mapping and CKK systems would be an asset
  • LIDAR is an asset
  • ARCGIS licensing is an asset
  • RISC Certificate required or willing to acquire.
  • Knowledge of the ALCES or willingness to learn.
  • First Aid and Wilderness First Aid preferred.
  • Knowledge of the government and first nations laws, rules and regulation related to archaeology.
  • Knowledge of Secwepemc Culture
  • Knowledge and experience in archaeological survey, testing and data recovery, and monitoring.
  • Good listening, verbal and, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills to achieve desired results and set priorities for self and others within a team-oriented work environment.
  • Diplomacy, tact, and confidentiality in dealing with a variety of people and information.
  • Reliable, self-motivated, dependable, with an ability to work independently.
  • Ability to work in a team orientated environment.
  • Flexibility is a must to adapt to changing work priorities.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy in preparing and entering information.
  • Experience working with ArcInfo and developing various types of ArcMap.
  • Familiar with Electronic Submissions (forestry) or willingness to learn mapping forestry development work (cp, sp, rd app, cruise maps)
  • Experience with results reporting.

Acceptable and current Criminal Record Check (Original)

Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License (Copy)

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Full time permanent position

Wage range: $23.00 – $34.40 per hour

Hours per week: 75 hours biweekly (max 37.5 hrs./week), with flexibility in hours/days of work.
