As the Geographic Information System (GIS) Integration Specialist, you will provide geoinformatics expertise and advanced spatial analytics services, including research, developing and implementing GIS technology solutions and promoting geodata best practices. You will integrate non-GIS data with the GIS platform to provide solutions to internal business units. This position is part of Corporate Advanced Analytics. The GIS Integration Specialist is a domain expert with the skills to integrate spatial and non-spatial systems to create innovative solutions. Primary duties include: 
  • Data Engineering: Design and implement automated scripts and workflows to facilitate the movement of data between systems and design and build data conversion services to allow for the transfer of geospatial data between data sources. Assess data quality, identify issues and convert data for compatibility with systems. Design and script Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) conversions to and from various data formats. 
  • Software Engineering: Provide data architecture expertise and software development skills to create interactive dashboards and maps using Esri web technologies. 
  • Research and Development: Investigate how the corporate GIS platform can be utilized for advanced analytics, including data integration, data query and analysis and cartographic outputs. Be the subject matter expert, provide technical advice, generate documentation, present developed solutions in forums and develop prototypes to promote innovation. 
  • Project Management: Conduct needs assessment of business unit requests and establish goals and deliverables. Design, build and oversee solutions based on client requirements and available technologies. Coordinate solution development with other teams and team members while following City standards. 
  • Support solutions to ensure they continue generating benefits for the client, including client training, troubleshooting and/or upgrading solutions and work with clients to enhance delivered solutions through needs assessment and adapting solutions to meet evolving requirements.
 
Qualifications 
  • A degree in quantitative disciplines such as computer science, software engineering, mathematics, engineering (Civil, Design, Drafting or related), applied GIS or related field 
  • At least 6 years of experience in academia or industry, including at least 3 years in general purpose programming (such as SQL, Web development or Python) is required. 
  • At least 4 years in GIS science and technologies (including ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Server, ETL software (FME), spatial data analysis, data creation/conversion or data maintenance) is required. 
  • Experience with Esri web services, arcpy, and an understanding of advanced programming concepts (like asynchronous operations, query optimization, and working with Application Programming Interfaces) would be considered assets. 
  • You are able to problem solve in a professional manner, excellent communicator with relationship building skills and sensitivity when dealing with confidential information and consulting abilities.

Compensation: Pay Grade 12 $44.20 - 59.09 per hour
Days of Work: This position typically works a 5 day
work week, with 1 day off in each 3 week cycle.
Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
