Business Development Services is part of the Minerals, Petroleum and Geoscience Division within the Department of Economic Development, Investment, Trade and Natural Resources. The unit is focused on creating an inclusive environment that accelerates sustainable exploration and development across the minerals, and oil and gas industry. Business Development Services facilitates industry investment attraction and growth by providing client-centered pathfinding services that support industry’s permitting and development needs.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Must be willing and able to travel to rural, northern, remote communities throughout the province, by various forms of transportation, with occasional overnight stays.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid full stage Manitoba Class 5 Drivers Licence.

Qualifications:
Essential:

  • Post-secondary education in Science, Geology, Physical Geography, or Earth Sciences; a relevant combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Experience in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), including ArcGIS and/or ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online.
  • Knowledge of GIS programming/scripting, which may include Visual Basic, Python, and Model Builder.
  • Experience working with Global Positioning System (GPS) Technology, online spatial data distribution platforms (ex: ArcGIS Online (AGOL) /Geocortex).
  • Knowledge of cartography and data representation.
  • Sound knowledge of geographic coordinate systems and geodetic datums.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain effective working relationships with various stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to prioritize work and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong problem solving skills to troubleshoot issues and find innovative and creative solutions.
  • Strong verbal communication skills to clearly and professionally communicate with internal and external stakeholders in person and by phone.
  • Strong written communication skills to draft, format and edit correspondence, letters, memos and reports.

Desired:
  • Experience working with geophysical data and / or geospatial raster data.
  • Database design and administration knowledge, which may include MS Access, Personal SDE, Oracle.

Duties:
This position is an integral part of the Permit Office within the Business Development Services Branch and is responsible for the operation and maintenance of its Geographic Information Systems (GIS), software and data resources. The incumbent is responsible for updating and maintaining mineral tenure spatial information in the Integrated Mining and Quarrying System (iMaQs). The position provides mapping, data management, analysis, and technical support to staff, industry clients, and the public.
