Gleniffer Lake Golf Course Superintendent:

Job Description:

The Golf Course Superintendent will have responsibility for providing the highest quality turf and playing conditions possible while overseeing equipment repair & maintenance, club house grounds and landscaping around related structures and buildings (pump stations, comfort stations, etc.). In this role you will be directly responsible for recruitment and selection, as well as training team members while providing a structured, highly functioning team atmosphere within the department. In conjunction with the property General Manager, be responsible for meeting and exceeding the established standards for guest satisfaction as well as operating the department within set budget parameters. The position also requires the chosen individual to be actively involved and hands on with day-to-day responsibilities as a part of the functioning agronomy team.

Required Qualifications:

  • Three years' experience in Turf Management or a related position required.
  • A diploma or degree in Turf Grass Management.
  • Valid Alberta Applicator’s Pesticide License.
  • Experience in all aspects of fertilizer & pesticide application.
  • Knowledge of ordering/purchasing, and inventory management.
  • Budget management and P&L accountability.
  • Ability to multi-task while remaining focused on the key objectives.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office programs.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills and abilities.
  • Ability to work individually in addition to working as a team.
  • Ability to make sound decisions and problem solve while being consistent with companies' core values.
  • Knowledge of preventative maintenance for irrigation systems and turf equipment.
  • Good understanding of mechanical operations of engines and hydraulics for guidance of equipment managers.
  • Good understanding of effluent irrigation systems and components related to best practices in consideration of agronomics.
  • Ability to calibrate sprayers, spreaders, instruments, irrigation software, and irrigation systems, etc.
  • Ability to operate irrigation control software.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Availability on weekdays and weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Delivers and promotes prompt, courteous, and friendly service to all members, guests, and employees.
  • Motivates, directs, and participates in carrying out daily tasks.
  • Assists in maintaining a daily record log for weather, course conditioning, cultural practices, equipment. maintenance, fertilizer, and pesticide applications, etc.
  • Train and develop team members to maximum employees' knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Oversee the maintenance and detailing of maintenance equipment after each use.
  • Maintain all grounds and landscaping around all facility related structures.
  • Schedule, train, supervise, and evaluate all Golf Course grounds team members.
  • Supervise all planting, fertilizing and care of turf, plants, shrubs, and trees.
  • Record all work of personnel within the department.
  • Prepare the annual budget for department.
  • Select and prepares proper fertilizers and nutrients for all flora and fauna.
  • Develop and maintain drainage, irrigation, and watering systems.
  • Maintain course in highest quality playing conditions possible.
  • Implement and enforce a comprehensive safety program for employees and guests on course in compliance with local, provincial, and federal laws.
  • Oversee the equipment maintenance throughout the entire facility including the Clubhouse and Pro Shop.
  • All duties as assigned by the General Manager and/or Asset Manager.
