Key Responsibilities
- Coordinating the preparation and distribution of community meals, ensuring they are nutritious and meet dietary requirements.
- Planning menus in large batch quantities, serving approx. 300 meals per week.
- Able to manage and maximize a small budget,
- Able to find creative ways to rescue food and minimize food waste.
- Training Lead Volunteers who specialize in various meal tasks (Lead Cooks, Lead Prep Cooks, Lead Servers, Lead Clean up etc.)
- Collaborating with volunteers and staff to ensure smooth functioning of community meal programs.
- Ensuring there are options for healthy snacks during other programs, when possible
- Maintaining accurate records, including client information, inventory logs for freezer/fridge temps, waste, and program statistics.
- Maintaining close working relationships with other program staff, and with staff from partner organizations.
- Using our communications tools to celebrate successes and help share stories.
- Participating in occasional special events, fundraisers and community projects.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities to effectively manage multiple responsibilities and prioritize tasks.
- Excellent communication skills to interact with volunteers, staff, and community members in a friendly and compassionate manner.
- Able to handle sensitive situations that arise with program participants from all walks of life.
- Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices in food preparation and storage.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.
- Empathy and compassion for individuals facing food insecurity. The ability to maintain confidentiality and respect the dignity of our guests.
- A facility with common computer software and with social media is required.
- Hold the safe food handling certification
- Provide a Police Records Check.
