Graphics Coordinator

Overview

Reporting to the Supervisor, Mapping & Production, the Graphics Coordinator supports the entire corporation, its partners and stakeholders by coordinating and/or preparing graphics and published materials for educational, informational and promotional purposes in keeping with the City’s Brand. The Graphics Coordinator liaises with internal and external contacts on a daily basis and provides assignment of work and supervision to technical team members.

Examples of key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Designs and prepares camera-ready artwork for digital and offset printing, social media and web applications.
  • Develops creative design, layout and graphics concepts suited to a particular need or project.
  • Coordinates print jobs both internally and externally.
  • Manipulates, edits, processes and colour corrects digital photography and raster files.
  • Creates, manipulates and edits vector illustrations, icons and logos.
  • Conducts comprehensive research and makes recommendations for use of new, up-to-date software and hardware required to complete the job.
  • Regularly meets with internal and external clients, presents creative/artistic ideas and concepts to meet their needs, and relays associated costs.
  • Regularly trouble-shoots and resolves problems associated with graphic applications and equipment, and provides technical support and advice to internal customers, city partners and stakeholders.
  • Consults on projects that impact City operations, including lending graphic design, publishing, and marketing expertise.
  • Ensures project definition, scope, and details are complete while monitoring project deadlines and budget.
  • Interprets and communicates technical or specialized information in a “user friendly” manner by using informal presentations customized for internal or external audiences.
  • Maintains a high level of customer service across a broad and diverse customer base while fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment.
  • Performs work defined by standard practice. Minor operating decisions are made within defined project/program plans. Seeks further direction when apparent decision requirements are not within the parameter of standards practice.
  • Provides guidance and direction to others such as assigning tasks, allocating work, and communicating job requirements, while maintaining an approachable demeanor as required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Thorough up-to-date knowledge of graphic design techniques, typography, layout and presentation methods.
  • Strong knowledge of graphics file types, digital and offset printing processes.
  • Comprehensive understanding of and ability to use Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, PhotoShop, Illustrator, Acrobat Professional) in a PC environment.
  • Intermediate to advanced skill in operating Microsoft Office software including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • A high level of skill, creativity and attention to detail is required.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to use a variety of media, materials and presentation techniques, while ensuring delivered product adheres to the City’s Visual Identity Guidelines.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously, work well under pressure, and deal with stressful situations with professionalism.
  • Ability to provide effective and timely customer service to, a variety of internal and external clients.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a high-volume workload.
  • Ability to easily adapt and change focus to meet constantly changing priorities and deadlines.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Completion of Grade 12, or equivalent, plus a two year Diploma in graphic arts and design, digital media, or desktop publishing, and at least two years’ related graphics experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia.

Working Conditions:

Duties are performed in an office environment. Travel to specific project locations is also required. There is occasional exposure to disagreeable conditions or hazards, some of which include heights, rain, and construction constraints. Frequent light physical effort will be required which includes, but is not limited to, sitting, standing, walking, and carrying. Frequent visual concentration is required. Continual mental concentration is required, including listening, multi-tasking, and prioritization.
