YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Bayer Canada - Crop Science Division is seeking a Greenhouse Assistants to work for the Breeding Operations team. The individual will assist in growthroom related operations which is part of a comprehensive Canola Breeding processes. This is a unique opportunity to work with leading edge technology and talented research scientists seeking to deliver the best products in Bayer’s canola pipeline.
The successful candidates will be hired by a third party company through Bayer’s Fieldglass system, but will be working for Bayer. This role is based in Winnipeg, Manitoba at the One Research Road location. This is a contract position with a 4-month term starting in April. 1 2024.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Assist with daily activities which may include: seeding, transplanting, harvesting, threshing of plants and cleaning, organizing of materials in facility.
- Manage all watering and plant/growthroom maintenance including weekend.
- Identify and report the need to control pests or diseases in growth rooms.
- Filling pots and flats, washing of lab coats, pots, stake, cleaning growthrooms and facility, and other tasks as needed.
- Notify Operational supervisor(s) when issues arise with facility or plants.
- Comply with Bayer Safety standards, and participate in required/designated safety programs.
- Comply with Bayer Quality Management System (QMS) and Compliance standards, and participate in required/designated QMS programs.
WHO YOU ARE
Bayer seeks an incumbent who possess the following:
- Degree or diploma in agricultural/biological science or related field or equivalent
- Ability to manage physical nature of watering, plant care, growthroom maintenance
- Willingness to work in varied weather conditions (cool or hot)
- Willingness to work on repetitive tasks
- Flexibility to work overtime in evenings/weekends when needed
- Possess strong ability to work accurately and pay attention to detail
- Outstanding organizational skills and ability to prioritize daily tasks
- Highly motivated, results oriented, with the ability to work with people individually or in a team to gain commitment to achieve results
- Learning agility and ability to learn new procedures
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to communicate complex ideas in a clear, concise and actionable manner
- Strong computer literacy, with experience using Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
- Ability to lift up to 30 lbs
DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
- Previous experience in Canola and/or plant science
- Experience in plant breeding, crop production or growth room/greenhouse production methodologies
HOURS
- 40 hours per week
- Able to work overtime during week and weekends when required.
Job Type: Fixed term contract
Contract length: 4 months
Pay: From $18.50 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
Schedule:
- 8 hour shift
- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed

- Winnipeg, MB: Relocate before starting work (required)
