Elliot Lake Retirement Living is seeking applicants for the position of:

GROUNDS LEAD

ELRL is a premier provider of rental housing in the picturesque City of Elliot Lake, ON. ELRL owns and operates 1,375 residential rental units including houses, townhouses and apartments spread throughout the community of Elliot Lake, a 52-room hotel (Hampton Inn by Hilton Elliot Lake) and operates an 18-hole championship golf course (Golf Stone Ridge at Elliot Lake).

ELRL is a significant economic driver in the City of Elliot Lake and is responsible for attracting retirees from all over the Province of Ontario to live an active and affordable retirement. Not to be mistaken for retirement homes, all ELRL units are independent living properties and are rented to both retirees and non-retirees.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Grounds Lead is responsible for performing a variety of work tasks for our residential housing stock. The Lead will be required to operate a variety of tools and equipment to carry out specified job tasks. They are the senior staff on the Grounds team and are responsible for safety, task standards, equipment maintenance, schedule planning and customer relations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with employee training
  • Ensure job sites, vehicles, tools and equipment are safe for staff.
  • Manage client relationships
  • Coach staff on how to safely and properly use equipment, machines, and tools.
  • Communicate expectations, with clients as well as staff.
  • Follow up with customers to ensure quality of work was completed.
  • Make recommendations to staff or clients using your expertise.
  • Assist with the day-to-day functions and tasks.
  • Keep communication open with upper management.
  • Perform site inspections.
  • Operate weed eaters, power mowers, backpack sprayers, power edgers, hoes, shovels, hand tools, and related landscape equipment as required.
  • Ensure all equipment is serviceable and repaired as necessary.
  • Primary focus will be do conduct all the grounds work on move-outs. In the spring, the houses that have vacated since end of October will need to be looked at for exterior painting, radon boxes and outside clean up including brush removal, flower beds, clean eaves, identify any deficiencies and rectify. After move-outs have been completed then the focus will be grounds work orders.
  • Level any steps that have heaved over the winter. Assist with step removal/ replacement and then repairing the lawns
  • Townhouses - aerate frontal areas and topsoil seed as necessary.
  • Cutting/trimming as per need and work order requests, along with other work orders received from tenants during the winter months.
  • Perform groundskeeping and building maintenance duties.
  • Apply fertilizer and soil to ground to enhance growth where required.
  • Cut down tree limbs that are posing a danger.
  • Trim shrubs and pull weeds.
  • Perform minor repairs and maintenance procedures on equipment utilized in groundskeeping.
  • Rake, mulch, and prune the grounds as needed.
  • Fallen leaves and weeds are the perfect place for pests to settle in for the winter. Clear out flower beds to keep the critters at bay.
  • In the Fall – it will be time to clear leaves and other debris from rain gutters. Check for proper drainage, clear out any blockages with a small garden trowel, and rinse with a hose. Break up soil to keep water from pooling and guarantee that nutrients will reach the roots over the winter.
  • Where required add a fall lawn fertilizer with high phosphorous content to encourage root growth and enjoy a lush, green lawn come spring.
  • At end of season take time to give your tools a good cleaning and add a light coat of oil to prevent rust during the cold season.
