Position Summary: As integral members of the Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre Team, Fitness Instructors, under the guidance of the Aquatics Manager, play a crucial role in delivering exceptional programs to our cherished members and guests. We seek individuals who are not only enthusiastic and motivating but also possess a sincere passion for engaging with people and collaborating effectively within a team. Responsibilities include demonstrating proper techniques and form, closely observing participants, and providing clear explanations of corrective techniques to enhance their skills and help them achieve their fitness goals.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Class Instruction
- Plan and lead Group Fitness classes in accordance with the established class format and guidelines.
- Demonstrate and teach proper form, technique, and modifications for various fitness level.
- Provide a safe and inclusive environment for participants to enjoy and maximize their workout experience.
- Evaluate individuals’ abilities, needs and physical conditions, and offer alternatives during classes to accommodate different levels of fitness.
- Instruct participants on the proper usage of equipment; observe participants and provide corrective measures for skill improvement.
- Plan routines, select appropriate music, and incorporate different movements for each set of muscles, considering participants’ capabilities and limitations.
- Foster a sense of community and camaraderie within the Group Fitness classes.
Program Development
- Design and develop effective and varied workout routines that cater to the needs and interests of the participants.
- Stay informed about industry trends, new fitness techniques, and incorporate them into class programming.
- Maintain accurate records of class attendance, submitting reports to Guest Services as required.
- Support program evaluation distribution, collection, and analysis.
- Stay current with industry certifications to enhance teaching skills and knowledge.
Compliance and Safety
- Ensure all fitness equipment is properly set up, maintained, and stored after each class.
- Report any equipment issues or maintenance needs to the appropriate staff.
- Be knowledgeable about and adhere to safety and emergency procedures, including CPR and first aid certification.
Qualifications (willingness to obtain and to be maintained as a condition of employment)
- Nationally recognized fitness certification
- Standard First Aid certification
- CPR and/or AED certification
- WHMIS certification
- Must provide a satisfactory Police Criminal Records Vulnerable Sector Check, and Child Abuse Registry Check.
Experience
- Previous experience in leading Group Fitness classes is preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Knowledge of fitness principles, exercise physiology, and nutrition.
- Knowledge of Group Fitness teaching strategies and the incorporation of music, tempo, cueing technique, and rhythm.
- Ability to be professional and motivate class participants.
- Working knowledge of human anatomy, kinesiology, and training principles.
- Ability to create a positive and motivating atmosphere.
- Ability to work both independently and as an integral part of a team.
- Flexibility to adapt to a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to establish and maintain respectful, cooperative, and professional relationships with colleagues and the community.
- Experience working with diverse demographics.
Working Conditions
- Flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift/move equipment as needed.

Wages:
- Will commensurate with education and experience.
