About the Role

Reporting to Health and Safety Manager, the Health and WCB Case Advisor provides specialist support in the development and implementation of safe and sustainable stay at work and timely return to work plans for employees with work related injuries or illnesses related to workers compensation claims.

Works directly with employees, supervisors and other stakeholders to create plans and resolve complex cases. Acts as a subject matter expert to support the day-to-day operation of the Recover at Work Program and with claims management within the HSSE department, providing input into program development and applying best practices.

You will use your expertise to:

In the space of the Health Promotion, Performance the person will act:

  • as a first point of contact for the business/function/asset regarding Health Promotion and Performance matters.
  • Implement and evaluate the HP&C plan for business partners and deliver the agreed HP&C activities and support using standardized tools and solutions.
  • Implement and support a wide variety of outcome-focused methods for interventions, events, activities, and information sources for the HP&C plan in a cost-effective way.
  • Contribute to the development of the Well Being programs and support the HP&C Specialist with delivery when required.
  • Evaluate information and best practices from experts in the HP&C area of expertise for local optimization of programs and tools and roll out HP&C interventions.
  • Work with and monitor external providers to deliver HP&C interventions.

In the space of the Worker’s Compensation management:

  • Ensure LNG Canada structure is in place to provide timely response to formal queries from Workers’ Compensation and company management within the HSSE function.
  • Provide as required analysis of claims costs and trends.
  • Provide guidance to primary handlers of claims for them to comply with Workers’ Compensation legislative requirements.
  • Verify rate group assignment:
    • check accuracy/applicability
    • submission to Workers’ Compensation for making changes
  • Stewardship of Workers’ Compensation process to LNG Canada management.
  • Ensure LNG Canada structure is in place to coordinate Workers’ Compensation audits.
  • Ensure LNG Canada process exists for providing guidance on Workers’ Compensation legislative requirements and compensation legislative changes and the affects of these changes to LNG Canada.
  • Communicate compliance requirements.
  • Act as LNG Canada representation in external Workers’ Compensation associations/organizations and task forces.
  • Respond to consultation or discussion papers by gathering input, analyzing, developing, coordinating, and presenting LNG Canada position to provincial government or industry groups.
  • Focal point for WorkSafe BC communication.

To be successful, you will have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing/Psychology/Public Health or another relevant health discipline preferrable.
  • Experience in the HSSE management delivery for on an industrial site.
  • Proven experience in health promotion and or HP&C practice with proven track record of delivering improvements in health outcomes.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience, solid knowledge of the concepts, principles, practices and techniques to disability management with a focus on occupational injuries and diseases.
  • Exposure to working in an industrial environment or large organization, is desirable.
  • General understanding of health promotion and behavioural change concepts.
  • Experience of working with virtual teams and contributing to projects virtually.
  • Exposure to training and facilitation skills as well as good communication skills (verbal and written) in English.
  • Role model curiosity and reflection - encourage people to learn from mistakes and successes.
  • Determined to support well-being and motivated to maintain the highest standards of safety and care.
  • Lead by example with deep personal commitment to doing the right thing.
  • Designation in one of the following is an asset: Certified Return to Work Coordinator (CRTWC), Certified Disability Management Professional (CDMP), Certified Vocational Rehabilitation Professional (CVRP) or Return to Work Disability Manager (RTWDM).

This role requires that you:

  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada (i.e., by way of Canadian citizenship, permanent residency, or valid work permit)
  • Live in the beautiful District of Stikine (Kitimat/Terrace).
