Health, Safety, and environmental Specialist

The Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Specialist will assist Armtec’s HSE Manager in achieving the goal of being among the safest places to work in our industry. The incumbent must be fluently bilingual in English and French. This role primarily supports the HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene) branches by providing guidance and collaborating on health, safety, and environmental initiatives.

Key responsibilities

  • Supports the development, implementation, and review of annual health, safety, and environment improvement plans.
  • Conducts monthly health, safety, and environmental inspections and audits.
  • Ability to travel to Armtec sites across Quebec and Ontario.
  • Validates and maintains accurate and complete incident information.
  • Manages workers' compensation processes, especially the CNESST.
  • Liaising with CNESST, and other provincial equivalents.
  • Implements health, safety, and environmental management systems.
  • Ensures emergency preparedness.
  • Oversees Joint Health and Safety Committees.
  • Provides support or facilitates incident investigation (SCAT), analysis, reporting, communication, and response.
  • Conducts hazard identification and risk assessment analysis and applies controls.
  • Delivers health, safety, and environmental training and post-training assessment.
  • Supports or facilitates the evaluation, development, and implementation of plant-level operational health, safety, and environmental programs and processes.
  • Provides advice to Branch managers, Supervisors, and employees regarding relevant compliance standards and other requirements related to health, safety, and environment.
  • Prepares quality reports and presentations with valid and comprehensive recommendations for health, safety, and environmental controls.
  • Notifies and supports responses to governmental inspections, investigations, and inquiries.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Holds a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) / Professionnel en sécurité agréé du Canada (PSAC) designation or capable and willing to obtain within a reasonable period of time.
  • Fluently bilingual in English and French (spoken and written) due to the national scale of this position.
  • Ideally 3+ years of health, safety, and environmental experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Working knowledge of health, safety, and environmental legal requirements, as well as applicable consensus standards and industry codes of practice.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing operations, processes, and applicable health, safety, and environmental hazards and controls.
