Job description

Heavy Civil Foreman – Greater Toronto Area, Southern Ontario
As the Foreman, you will be responsible for supervising and coordinating construction activities in conjunction with the Superintendent on road construction projects to ensure they are completed safely, on time, and within budget. Reporting to the Project Manager and Superintendent, the Foreman will lead a team of construction workers, subcontractors, and equipment operators, while also liaising with MTO inspectors and project stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
 

  • Lead, supervise, and coordinate construction activities on projects, including road construction, bridge maintenance, and highway rehabilitation.
  • Ensure compliance with project plans, specifications, and MTO regulations, while upholding high standards of safety and quality.
  • Manage and schedule work crews, subcontractors, and equipment to optimize productivity and efficiency.
  • Conduct daily briefings and toolbox talks to communicate project goals, safety protocols, and work assignments to the team.
  • Monitor work progress, quality, and adherence to schedules, and take corrective action as needed to address any issues or delays.
  • Collaborate with the Project Manager to track project costs, review budgets, and report on project progress.
  • Interface with MTO inspectors, engineers, and other project stakeholders to address concerns, resolve issues, and ensure project compliance.
  • Enforce company policies, procedures, and safety standards to maintain a safe and productive work environment.
  • Mentor and train junior staff members, providing guidance and support to enhance their skills and capabilities.

Qualifications:
 
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a Foreman or Site Supervisor/Lead Hand role on Heavy Civil construction projects, with a focus on MTO projects preferred.
  • Thorough understanding of MTO specifications, standards, and regulations governing road and bridge construction.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively manage and motivate a diverse team.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities, with a proactive approach to resolving issues and conflicts.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of construction methods, techniques, and equipment used in civil engineering projects.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites across Ontario as required.
  • Certification in First Aid, CPR, and other relevant safety training programs preferred.
