JOB POSTING

Position: Homeless Prevention Worker
Location: 101-4623 Park Avenue
Bargaining Unit: BCGEU
Classification: Adult, Youth and/or Child Worker, Grid Level 11, BCGEU.
Rate of Pay: $23.10- $26.91

Job Description: Using a trauma informed approach, the homeless prevention worker connects people who are homeless or At Risk of
Homelessness with housing. This position directly engages people who are homeless or At Risk of Homelessness by assessing clients’
needs, assisting with personal goals, and connecting individuals and families with stable accommodation and appropriate services.

Qualifications: Diploma in a related human/social service field. And one (1) year recent related experience.
Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Skills and Abilities:
 Solid understanding of the impacts of homelessness;
 Strong organizational and problem-solving skills;
 Strong conflict resolution and crisis intervention skills;
 Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills;
 Excellent time and stress management skills;
 Valid BC Driver’s license with a safe driving record and access to a reliable vehicle.
 Demonstrated ability to teach and work effectively with others in both a group and one to one setting.
 Ability to effectively work with a team and follow operating procedures;
 Energetic, self-starter, and ability to work independently;
 Ability to adhere to confidentiality guidelines and maintain respectful boundaries;
 Ability to work professionally, collaboratively, and respectfully with clients as well as the community;

Other requirements:
 Must pass a criminal record check and sign an Oath of Confidentiality;
 Must have a current level 1 First Aid or be willing to obtain in a timely manner;
 Crisis Prevention training and or de-escalation training, non-violent intervention;
 Substance use awareness and safety training, including naloxone training;
 LGBT2Q+ awareness training;
 Trauma-informed practice training;

Hours of Work: 35 hours/week
