Rocky Mountain International Student Program

Homestay Coordinator (Kimberley)

School District No. 6 (Rocky Mountain) is now accepting applications for a Homestay Contractor (Coordinator) based in Kimberley, BC. This role is effective May 1, 2024 to July 15, 2024 (this is an ongoing position with contract renewed annually). Compensation is based on the rate per homestay student(s) enrolled in the International Education Program.

School District No. 6 (Rocky Mountain) is located in the beautiful Rocky Mountain Trench encompassing the communities of Golden, Invermere and Kimberley. The District’s successful International Education program (RMISP) operates across multiple communities and three school districts, including in Golden, Invermere, Kimberley, Cranbrook, Sparwood, Fernie, and Revelstoke. RMISP welcomes 130+ students per year. Homestay Coordinators are an essential part of the program providing local support and care for students and host families.

The successful candidate will:

· work closely with the Director, International Education, International Program Coordinators, and school administrators to support international student placements in Kimberley;

· advertise for and recruit new homestay families for the program;

· help coordinate and supervise a wide variety of extra-curricular activities, events, and trips;

· meet and/or communicate with international students, school administrators, teaching staff, and host parents on a regular basis at each secondary school;

· communicate with education agents and/or natural parents in the students’ home countries;

· process and manage student and host family information and documentation in online database;

· be on-call to provide advice/support to students/families and to attend to emergency situations;

· hold a valid BC Driver’s license (Class 5);

· own a vehicle suitable for transporting students if/when needed;

· have or be willing to obtain Occupational First Aid (Level 1); and

· perform other related duties as needed or assigned.

Experience working with an international student program, as a host parent, working with high school-aged students and organizing/supervising activities and events are considered assets. Enthusiasm, creativity, conflict management, great communication skills, a calm demeanor and administrative skills are also desired. Applications from persons with experience living and working abroad and with foreign language ability are encouraged.
