Position Description:
Working at our Windsor Junction property, the Horticulturist will plan, implement and maintain the various gardens around the property. This includes showcase gardens at the front entrance and around the clubhouse, along with various beds around the course. Working out of the Greens Department and reporting to the Course Superintendent, the Horticulturist will be responsible for all planning, ordering and record keeping of the desired materials needed for maintaining the various gardens on property.
Qualifications:
- Post secondary education in the field is an asset
- Minimum 2 years experience with planning and implementing a landscape program
- Demonstrate the understanding of garden construction, plants, soils and the tools/ equipment to maintain them
- Operate various pieces of equipment that include but are not limited to line trimmer, blowers, tiller, lawn mower, hedge trimmers
- Ability to work independently and on their own
- Good communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with staff and members
Responsibilities
- Perform horticultural duties including but not limited to designing, planting, watering, maintaining and record keeping of all annual, perennial and shrub and tree beds on property
- Utilize our on property greenhouse for preparing annuals for the season and bringing in certain plants each fall to maintain over the winter months
- Lead, guide and train seasonal workers that will be helping with the operation
- Comply with Health and Safety regulations
- Maintain all equipment properly and safely while communicating with our Equipment Manager about any issues
- Work closely with the Course Superintendent to ensure the course and surrounding gardens complement each other and meet member expectations
Requirements
- Ability to work the summer hours of 530am to 130pm
- Ability to get to the property on their own as there is no bus service
