Job description

Teddy's Homes is an Agency with homes for children and youth in care. The essence of family, belonging, caring and inclusiveness is what we strive for and establish with each home by having full time House Parents. This is a live-in position.House Parents are required to move in to the resource provided by Teddy's Homes. Support/relief workers work out of this home as well. If you are wanting to bring children and/or youth into your home this is Not a position for you . This position requires ongoing care for the child(ren) on a daily, weekly, monthly, etc. basis. If you are in a position to change your lifestyle completely, live in a home for which we provide all of the living expenses including a household budget for daily expenses, plus pay you an above average wage, this may be the job for you. We also provide support and respite/relief that may be needed. We strive to provide a stable home for the youth in our care and to this end, if it becomes necessary to change the House Parent, the children and/or youth will remain in 'their home'. The staff of our homes, from management to support staff become family and there is always 24-hour support. This position requires that you have experience working with children and youth especially at risk kids and kids that may display big behavior's. We are currently looking for House Parents in the Fraser Valley Area.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
-Parenting and supporting our Youth and Children in care by providing a safe, clean and comfortable home environment
-As our homes are Aboriginal culturally based, participation in our cultural programming is essential
-Building relationships with all other staff, Social Workers, School, Doctors, Elders and Biological family
-Daily and Monthly written reports
-Drive the children and/or youth to appointments and encouraging participation in extra-curricular activities
-Preparation of all meals, household chores and maintenance of the home
-Must have good time management
-Have great motivational skills and use positive communication to maintain control of the environment
-Represent our program in a professional manner in the community and maintain confidentiality.
-Ability to correctly distribute any needed medication and to keep accurate records

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
-Certificate, diploma, degree or attending education in child and Youth Care Counseling, Social Work, Foster Parenting or related field
-Minimum 1 year experience with Children and Youth working with youth that are at-risk or have developmental delays and other special needs
-Experience with FASD, setting healthy boundaries, active listening and effective communication
-Ability to work as a team leader

Requirements:

-To be able to pass Ministry of Children and Family mandated HUB Screening
-Basic Computer Skills
-Criminal Record Check
-Valid Drivers License
-A reliable vehicle

-First Aid-Emergency First Aid with Level C CPR/AED
-Food Safe Level 1
-WHMIS

-Mental Health First Aid

-Worksafe BC Violence Prevention

-Privacy and Information Sharing: Awareness Training for Contractors and Service Providers
