Position Overview

Residence Housekeeping within Acnillary Services is currently seeking a Recurring Part-time Housekeeper.

Position reports to the Housekeeping Manager and supervised in-scope by the Housekeeping Lead Hand. The Housekeeper will create and maintain a healthy and clean environment in a designated area in the University of Calgary Residence complex. Peak periods occur throughout the months of April to September. Work hours may be extended periodically as there are time pressures for turning over the work during the end of April and the end of August. This position requires standing, sitting, walking, lifting, reaching, talking, hearing, seeing, learning, problem solving, and interacting with others throughout the workday. Regular attendance is essential.

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Full range of cleaning duties for all rooms, including washrooms, hallways, stairwells, building entrances, and elevator area.
  • Clean (sweep, strip, dust, scrub, mop, wash or vacuum), polish or wax floors, carpets, walls, windows, woodwork, furniture, plumbing fixtures, and equipment in all Residence Facilities
  • Collect and dispose of trash, recyclables and other wastes.
  • Provide washrooms with soap, paper products and other necessary supplies and to observe and report unusual situations on property and grounds.
  • Operate buffers, wet/dry vacuums and floor scrubbing machines, carpet extractors and pressure washers (with proper orientation).
  • Report on safety issues and the need for maintenance repairs and to clean and maintain tools and equipment after use.
  • Regular communication with the Residence Life staff regarding cleanliness concerns.
  • Communicating move out procedures to the residents.
  • Assisting the Housekeeping Coordinator with an inspection of the Residence Complex once a semester.

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • High School graduation diploma or equivalent work experience.
    • Basic mathematics knowledge is necessary.
    • Oral and written English language abilities are required.
  • Understanding of and experience with cleaning products and machinery.
  • Builds good working relationships and demonstrates the ability to work successfully as part of a team.
  • Proven ability to provide resident centered customer service.
  • Demonstrates efficiency in completing tasks while maintaining a high level of attention to detail.
  • Able to lift, pull, push, grasp and bend while lifting up to 50lbs. Repetitive motions for an extended duration of time are required.
