Job description

The Human Resources Payroll Manager is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, controlling, and evaluating the Human Resources operations for Handling Specialty Manufacturing Ltd., Whiting Equipment Canada Inc., and Whiting Services Co Ltd. They develop and implement policies, programs, and procedures regarding human resources planning, recruitment, training and development, occupation classification, and compensation and benefits administration.

This individual represents management and participates actively on various joint committees, such as the health and safety and employee welfare committee to maintain ongoing relations between management and employees. The Human Resources and Payroll manager develops and manages employment programs, salary compensation and job evaluations, promotions, equal opportunity initiatives, and education and training programs.

This individual will also be responsible for the preparation and accuracy of preliminary and final payroll reports, time sheets, spreadsheets, and funds distribution, assuring compliance with all applicable federal and provincial regulations, and company policies. Other duties will be assigned as necessary.

Reports to the President.

Responsibilities

· Collaborate with management to create, implement, and/or maintain company procedures, HR initiatives, and company policies.

· Work with the H$S coordinator to manage WSIB claims and reporting.

· Ensure planning, monitoring, and appraisal of employee work results by training and disciplining employees; hearing and resolving employee grievances; counselling employees.

· Spearhead full cycle recruiting for salaried, hourly, and technical positions.

· Advise and assist other departmental managers on interpretation and administration of personnel policies and programs.

· Support management to deliver performance reviews for all team members.

· Processing of payroll for all salaried and hourly staff; benefits administration; issuing ROE’s, T4’s, etc.

· Prepare and oversee the preparation of a variety of payroll-related documents (e.g., pension and DPSP administration, payroll register, garnishments register, etc.)

Qualifications

· Bachelor's degree or equivalent in relevant work experience. A CHRP or CHRL designation would be considered an asset.

· Have at least 5 years of experience working in a progressive HR role.

· Experience in a Manufacturing setting is an asset.

· Strong time-management and organizational skills to ensure deadlines are met.

· Strong knowledge of payroll systems, internal controls, and management.

· Resourceful and self-motivated with the ability to work in a matrixed, fast-paced, and changing environment.

· Effective communication skills with individuals at all levels of the organization.

· Communicate professionally, both in verbal and written format.

· Computer literacy, including effective working skills of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and email required to prepare spreadsheets, reports, and presentations.

· Prioritize multiple assignments, projects, and requests for assistance from team members.

· Apply knowledge of ESA, OHSA, OHRA, other employment legislation, and best practices in practical situations.

· Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times. Able to work efficiently as a part of a team and independently.
