Human Resources Business Partner

Status: Term (leave replacement anticipated to December 2025)
Location: Ideally, the candidate would work out of any one of our operating locations (Holyrood, Bishop’s Falls, St. Anthony, Port Saunders or Goose Bay).
Reporting to the Manager, HR Business Partners and Indigenous Affairs, the Human Resources Business Partner will provide support to the Manager and HR Business Partner team on key initiatives across the business. You will support the alignment of Hydro’s people strategies with business and operational strategies by developing effective relationships with employees and management as you provide guidance on people related policies and issues across our system. ­You will have the opportunity to exercise a high level of personal initiative and judgement as you support the delivery of HR Business Partner initiatives and services including, but not limited to, performance and attendance management, organizational effectiveness and management, and general supervisor and employee support. You will be accountable for advising employees, supervisors and managers on general employment and employee relations matters such as conflict resolution, investigations, and collective agreement and policy interpretation. You will also work closely with other members of the People and Culture team, in particular the Employee Relations Department, to ensure alignment on initiatives that steward to Hydro’s values and support Hydro’s Operations across the Province. To be successful in this role you must have the ability to develop and foster a relationship of mutual respect with diverse individuals and have the ability to work collaboratively to review, recommend and communicate improvement opportunities. You are also a strong proponent of change management best practices. Travel to Hydro’s various locations in Newfoundland and Labrador will be required as you provide service and support to various operational areas.
Qualifications for this HR role include a degree in business or related discipline, preferably supplemented by a master’s degree and/or CHRP designation, with a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in a broad range of human resource management functions, labour relations, and people development. Extensive experience working within a unionized operational workforce is required.­ The successful candidate will have a proven record of accomplishment of effective communication (written and oral), respectful conflict management, and collaboration within a diverse team. ­­You must have strong interpersonal skills and are able to manage and prioritize competing demands for your time. ­Proficiency with Microsoft Office and JDE or similar application is a requirement for this position. Your experience with taking initiative along with a demonstrated ability to identify, analyze and resolve complex situations will be key assets. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. This position may be eligible for hybrid work arrangements subject to Management approval.
