Job description

POSITION SUMMARY: 

This position will require working closely with all departments, particularly operations, in the Connection Technologies Rexdale facility to elevate the HSE (Health, Safety and Environment) culture. The HSE Specialist will provide leadership and technical expertise in HSE. The role requires above average continuous improvement mindset, a great passion for learning, influence creativity, innovativeness, and excellent organizational skills.


DUTIES:

HSE
-    Maintain HSE Management System (standards, procedures, forms/templates) and ensure compliance with all federal, provincial and international regulations
-    Maintain knowledge of relevant OH&S acts, regulations, industry best practices and other applicable legislation
-    Accountable for the implementation and management of HSE programs
-    Work closely with departments to drive continuous improvements to HSE programs 
-    Provide guidance, direction, and support to all operational teams and supervisors to ensure HSE Management System is fully implemented and maintained
-    Maintain/administer HSE Velocity system
-    Complete/coordinate HSE calendar of compliance
-    Conduct incident investigations and lead root cause analysis and determination of effective corrective actions
-    Lead/promote IIF (Incident and Injury Free) culture in the shop floor and offices through coaching, leading by example, monitoring of ASAs, Take 5s
-    Oversee regular HSE meetings (ex. JHSC, safety stand downs) and conduct/coordinate HSE training
-    Facilitate visits and inspections by external inspectors from regulatory organizations and customers
-    Organize, develop, deliver and implement Toolbox Talks, Safe Work Procedures, Job Hazard Analysis, emergency response plans, training, seminars, and other workshops, and presentations on health, safety and environmental topics to operational teams including supervisors and employees
-    Work with internal teams to prepare hazard/risk assessment, machine guarding surveys, aspects registry and other plans
-    Understand ethical behavior and safety practices, and ensure that own behavior and the behavior of others is consistent with these standards and aligns with the values of the organization
-    Perform workplace inspection and HSE management system internal audits

Metrics
-    Lead the management and improvement of HSE Metrics
-    Streamline processes for data collection, analyses, reporting and management

Others
-    Other duties as assigned by the manager


SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED:
-    Bachelor degree - preferred 
-    JHSC Certification Part 1 & 2  or equivalent - preferred 
-    Minimum of 2 to 4 years of experience in Health, Safety & Environment

-    Previous experience in Manufcturing industry - preferred 
-    Possess a continuous improvement mindset
-    Excellent organizational skills, self-motivated
-    Strong desire to train and facilitate
-    Excellent analytical and problem solving skills including investigation techniques
-    Above average interpersonal skills including influencing others
-    Excellent communication and writing skills
-    Experience in writing procedures, creating process flows and other documentations
-    Be coachable and enthusiastic about coaching others
-    Can work independently with minimal supervision
-    Experience in auditing (HSE, QMS) preferred
