School District 72 Campbell River is located on the east coast of central Vancouver Island, extending north to Sayward and south to Oyster River. The district also includes the outer islands of Read, Cortes, and Quadra. We serve over 5,500 students in 18 schools with a diverse range of programs that are progressive and responsive to the educational needs and interests of students.

About the Role
Join our team and play a pivotal role in talent acquisition and workforce planning for School District 72 (Campbell River). In this work, the HR Specialist will be handling processes and projects that have a direct impact on schools, students, staff, and community.
The successful candidate will be an HR professional with 3+ years’ experience in full-cycle recruitment, who is dedicated to advancing inclusion and diversity in the hiring process; and, will have a meticulous approach to organizing, prioritizing and executing work, that is adaptive to feedback and changing circumstances. Lifelong learning and staying current on trends and local impacts to our are key attributes we are seeking.
Reporting to the Director, Human Resources, this HR specialist will work closely with department managers, school administrators, district principals, and others in supporting HR planning and recruitment activities and will provide related advice, assistance and recommendations.
Your Responsibilities as a Recruitment Specialist:
Applies best recruitment practices and strategies in the hiring process, ensuring a positive, transparent and seamless experience for both candidates and the hiring team.
Develops relationships with clients to understand staffing needs and identifies creative solutions to staffing problems.
Works closely with the Hiring Managers to ensure integration of Equity Diversity and Inclusion principles in all stages of recruitment.
Conducts interviews and makes recommendations to selection committees with evaluations that reflect sound objective selection decisions.
Provides direction to the HR Assistant. Participates in recruitment activities such as screening resumes, reference checking, and pre-employment testing as needed.
Drives social media content to attract candidates using innovative sourcing solutions to attract top talent with a variety of platforms: social media, job boards, networking, websites, Make A Future, Job Connect, Indeed, LinkedIn, and other career technologies.
Coordinates and supports recruitment, outreach and networking events.
Partners with external agencies to source vacancies and hard to fill roles.
Interprets hiring procedures as outlined in the collective agreements, relevant legislation, and Institute policy.
Supports innovative recruitment strategies and initiatives, that align with district direction that meets both current and future workforce requirements.
Your Responsibilities as a HR Information Specialist:
Provides support in reporting and analytics. Compiles regularly scheduled metrics reporting. Uses HR data to drive reports and process improvements.
Ensures accuracy and integrity of organizational data within the HRIS. Building custom reporting to support the analytical needs of the district.
Leads various HRIS projects for system optimization, reporting, data management, and other applications.
Acts as subject matter expert of HR systems and processes, including advising the HR team, managers, and employees regarding best use of the system.
Works closely with HR team and other partners to identify opportunities to improve and optimize business processes, promotes best practices, enhances user experiences, reduces cycle time, and overall gains performance efficiencies.
Provides support to change management, communication, and training activities. Assists in developing presentations, process documentations and workflows, handbooks, quick reference guides, and other supports for staff and new hires.
Qualifications, Skills & Abilities
A Degree in a related discipline and/or completion of a recognized Human Resources Management diploma program.
Three to five years’ relevant work experience in a unionized environment.
CPHR designation is preferred.
Strong recruitment expertise with a thorough knowledge of recruitment, selection, compensation, workforce planning, collective agreement interpretation, Employment Standards and Human Rights legislation.
Exceptional interpersonal and customer service skills, including ability to build and maintain relationships, and communicate in an effective manner.
Excellent written communication skills to develop talent acquisition materials including but not limited to email communications, job postings, interview tools, advertisements, presentations, etc.
Ability to deal tactfully and decisively with sensitive client issues while maintaining highest level of customer service and confidentiality.
Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines and handle changing priorities.
Strong systems analysis, design, and problem-solving skills; able to analyze and interpret data to identify trends and present findings to managers and peers.
Demonstrated ability to contribute to a team environment that promotes collaborative decision making and working together to bring a shared vision to life.
