Overview:
Sabeel Muslim Youth & Community Center is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Imam to lead our community in spiritual guidance, religious education, and worship services. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of Islamic teachings, excellent communication skills, and a passion for community service. As an Imam, you will play a critical role in nurturing the spiritual development of our congregation, fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment, and promoting Islamic values of peace, compassion, and justice.
A particular focus of this role will be on engaging and inspiring our youth, guiding them in their spiritual growth and connecting them with their faith in meaningful ways.
Duties:
- Lead and conduct religious services and rituals for the Muslim community
- Collaborate with other imam(s) at Sabeel
- Deliver sermons and lectures on Islamic teachings, values, and principles
- Provide guidance and counseling to individuals seeking spiritual support
- Perform religious ceremonies, including marriages, funerals, and other rites
- Teach and educate community members on Islamic beliefs, practices, and traditions
- Write articles, publications, or other materials related to Islam for educational purposes
- Lead by example in promoting Islamic values and adhering to the teachings of the Quran and Sunnah
- Outreach dawa activities
Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as Dawah outreach and Youth engagement
- Advanced knowledge of Islamic theology and jurisprudence, acquired through formal Islamic education (e.g., Alim degree or equivalent)
- Strong proficiency in Arabic, with the ability to recite the Quran beautifully and accurately
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
- Ability to effectively present complex religious concepts to diverse audiences
- Demonstrated leadership skills within the Muslim community especially with Youth
- Proficient in public speaking and delivering engaging sermons
- Hafiz of the Quran - an asset
Working Conditions:
- This is a full-time position with flexibility required for events, meetings, and community activities outside of regular prayer times.
- Participation in community events, educational programs, and meetings is expected
